I once worked with a girl who sent her OH shopping with a list which included loo rolls. When he got home he apologised for only being able to buy 95.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Well I am an OH and I have been like the majority of the men you are talking about. However, I do ALL the shopping and though it has taken me months of 'suggestions' from my lady, I can finally see that shopping for whole meals rather than just what I fancy and not thinking about the cost, is helping our budget and so all I can say is that if you don't want them to spend too much, only give them £10 and a list. You can't go far wrong then, otherwise, just DON'T let them go!
Course, some of them might mess up the shopping on purpose in the hope you might stop asking them to go.:p

my husband was at a friend of mine's house the other day, babysitting. (My friend and i have similar outlooks and shopping/cooking styles). He came back saying, blimey, she doesn't have ANYTHING you can eat out of a packet either! At least he knows it's not just us!0

Men are problem solvers.
Problem: Nothing simple, quick and "at hand" to eat.
Solution: Go to shop to procure products.
Problem solved, bear in mind that any potential discussion that could divert or delay the solution will be avoided at all cost.0 -
With my OH it's not about the food shopping so much, as I do it, more other things, but DS(15) can frequently be heard slamming cupboard doors and complaining loudly that there's no food in this house, just ingredients!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0

My dear husband wouldn't DARE set foot in MY kitchen and I NEVER allow him to food shop, other than that he wears the trousers.0

The EX Mr Frugal was exactly the same... a total disaster area where money saving was/is concerned which is one of the many reasons why he is the ex. He now has an IVA, no savings, no nothing despite a very well paid job, and I on the other hand am doing rather nicely on my low budget and am much happier knowing that my efforts in moneysaving are paying for the kids and I to have abroad holidays
I used to cry with frustration when I couldn't buy the things I wanted for the twins before they were born, but he would eat/drink starbucks/costas/fast food etc to approx £10-£15 a DAY
AND i was always ebaying the girls things to replace their small stuff with new (or ebay) stuff.0 -
My DH is well trained. MoneysavingExpert.com and I have taught him very well.
