That's awful! I'd be seriously considering not even going in today after that.

Do you get on with everyone in your office? Is there anyone who might have something against you for whatever reason?

Glad you've reported it, because this needs stopping NOW! They're now stealing your personal possessions, what will they go for next? Your handbag? Your purse?

A lad I used to work with sometimes used to hide my sandwich and take my car keys and hang them from the ceiling individually (I used to have a lot of key rings back then!), but I knew deep down he was a good lad, and just a prankster, as he did it to other folk too. Your guy (or gal!) appears to be a bit more than a prankster though to me. :(

Report it as theft to HR, it wasn't an innocent swipe of some chicken, it was theft of not only food but containers that had cost you money and were quite obviously your property. Explain to HR that they have exactly one week to ascertain who did it and ensure that person is punished or you will take it to the police and let them deal with it. It may not be a large item but theft is theft and you should be able to keep your property under your desk without fear it will be stolen. What next, they take your handbag, mobile etc?

Absolutely agree with this. Put a rocket up HR and do threaten to report it to the police.

If someone's playing a (bad) joke, it'll stop them in their tracks.

If, as others have said, you're being bullied, hopefully it'll have the same effect!

I don't get it. Who the hell would steal somebody else's lunch? Even if I was absolutely famished I wouldn't do it. Not only is it extremely inconsiderate and mean, but you don't even know exactly what is in it or who has made it.

Oh my god, stealing someone's lunch to eat is bad enough, but actually taking your tupperware, cool bag etc? That is really shocking and really serious.

Sounds like someone is deliberately targeting you, as surely they must have gone to the fridge, seen your lunch was no longer there, then actually went to your desk to steal it. Like someone else said, I'd check the bins at work.

Also +1 for getting heavy handed with HR. They have been very dismissive probably because they don't want to have to deal with situations like this and would go for the easy options out first. If they don't want to help, contact the Police and explain how indignant HR have been if they still refuse to help.

Please make sure HR take this seriously and make it clear you want the perpetrator found out.

Ask HR if you can leave your lunch in their office.

I dont care if I would end up in trouble - I would seriously re-consider the laxative touch now!!! what a cheeky sod waiting until you went away on break and stealing it from under your desk!

do you sit by anyone who can tell you who was around your desk?!

I would stop talking to HR and put it in writing by email, copying in your direct supervisor/line manager.

This has stopped being an issue of simple and continual theft and is now direct and personal harassment. And I'd be mentioning it explicitly to each and every one of your direct work-colleagues so it doesn't happen to them/they are on notice that you've taken it up with HR.
