WE have switched off all subscriptions to sky and this turns the digibox into a
FREE Freeview with all channels you list and NO £70odd spend so, and sorry if its already mentioned here, I couldn't find it?
Just call SKY and bin subscription (Post 1 year) to get the same benefit. Also on a similar note we also have freeview via a Media Centre and we get more free with it than with Sky i.e. UK Bright Ideas, History, Sky3 to name a few I'm aware of - why is Sky so mean?

Very true, they are mean arn't they.
I have done the same thing after a year of family package subscription I cancelled and now have all the freesat channels.
Freeview has channels such as More4 and E4, which are subscription only on Sky. The only reason I got Sky was because I can't get Freeview and would recomend this £79 deal to anyone who can't get Freeview (Stop suffering with crap indoor aerials). If you can get Freeview and your aerial is good, get that.

You are not getting any channels that are worth watching or are already on Freeview.

Most of the channels are holiday or shopping stuff some are european.

Nothing good is included like Bravo - FX or other good ones.

The Virgin Media package I have and lilke this is topped up with a freeview box.

Point here I just got an £8 month discount off Virgin Media for 12 months as I said I was going over to SKY.
  • Hi I have freesat from sky (got it last week by plugging my old sky box into the existing cables) but wondered if there is a way when changing channels on the remote, just to get the channels that are 'active' so I do not have to trawl through the scambled channels? Any help would we great...

I installed one of those £60 Lidl satellite rigs for a mate who lives in North Wales - he could only receive three channels on analogue (one of those being S4C & he doesn't speak Welsh...), and there was no Freeview signal. FM radio coverage is poor there too & no DAB signal, so he was delighted to get most of what's on Freeview and all the BBC radio stations in decent quality too.

However, that's about the only situation I'd recommend this sort of thing for - he still doesn't have C4/E4/More 4/Five/Five US. Most of the extra channels on satellite are shopping, religion, or the truly terrible Zone film channels. There's a few music channels, and if you're a news junkie there are quite a few English-language overseas news channels... but that's about it.

If you can receive Freeview you're better off with that IMO.

I've just bought a house which has a Minidish already fitted, so I'd rather use that than get a freeview aerial installed. Does anyone know:
    • If I buy a second-hand Sky+ box, do I need anything else to access the channels?
    • Which channels would I get? (I only really want the basic Freeview ones cos I don't watch much TV)
    • Would I just be better off getting this package?
    • Would I be able to get Pay-Per-view premiership games?
    Thanks!

You can use the 'favourites' function............ do you know of it?

You put a tick against the channel you want........when completed you can just view those ones by pressing the blue button on your remote control!

The favourite channels menu can be accessed via Services 7 .

The Sky + would not record as you have to subscribe to Sky packages, you could just get a secondhand ordinary Sky box, BUT you will need the card, so make sure it has A CARD, OTHERWISE IT COSTS A ONE OFF £20 FROM sKY ON TOP OF WHAT YOU PAY FOR THE BOX. (Whoops capitals lock stuck) ;)

Basic Freeview except no E4 etc, till possibly next year, when CH4 wants to pull out of Sky package

    Maybe

No PPV or Footie as you haveto have Sky Package, on that front Sky are wanting to do PPV and Footie on Freeview next season by taking Sky News /Spors news and Sky 3 off it.
