We already have a freeview box but are considering Sky as I am partially sighted and I know that Audio Description is available through Sky.

What I would like to know is if we buy this package for £75 can we then upgrade to a Sky+ box as we want to take advantage of being able to record and pause and rewind live TV? Does anyone know how much (on top of the £75) it would cost us to upgrade?

With normal Sky you are supposed to have the phone line plugged in, looking on the Dixons site there are no t+c i presume they will be in the box with the info they send

To all who are asking re phone line - the small print on the box clearly states that you are required to connect to a fixed phone line, just have to read it!

My wife's box (we already have one £150 Freesat bought last year after we lost our terrestial signal over Xmas 2005) has just been delivered 5 days after ordering from Dixon's on the net. We live in the Border TV area with no C5 or Freeview, and the digital start date has slipped from mid 2008 to 2009, so even if we end paying the extra £25 for no phone line this is still a better deal than 15 months ago.

My first try via the sky supplied 0870 number would have resulted in a 21 minute wait, so will try again later. Or the saynoto0870, if and only if, there is an alternative listed to this number as it probably goes to a small dedicated team, hence others difficulties with no knowledge of this offer etc.

Update - using sky supplied number, had 5 minute wait plus 9 minute conversation. Fitting booked for Monday 23rd a.m.

    .

You dont need to pay the £25 after the installer has left just unlug from the phone line , Sky will not know you have done this.

Bear in mind on this offer you will have to pay £10 per month for the Sky+ charge when your 2 mix package ends.

You could just go for the Sky+ box for £99 with Sky and pay the £15 for the 2 mix package

Yes of course, but your assuming I have a phone socket where the box and tv will be, and before anybody says it, yes I can do my own (temporary) extension courtesy of a 15m kit!! The point was that it is still a cheap deal if you live in a non digital area and do not want a contract.

You dont need to do an extention the Sky engineer will run cabling from the box to where your phone socket is, just get him to lay it loose and say you will fit later as you are going to decorate or something.

After the free 6 month Variety package ended we weren't going to bother subscribing to anything. So, am I right in thinking that you cannot just get a Sky+ box without any subscription to Sky?

In that case, I think we will stick to Freeview.

Has anyone got 2 Sky+ boxes on multiroom? I can't figure out if they would both allow recording of 2 channels at the same time, ie would I be able to record 4 channels simultaneously?
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

Yes you can get a Sky+ box but would have to pay the £10 Sky+ charge if you dont subscibe to any channels.

EDIT: My current contract runs out at midnight so will see if Sky+ still works
