MLP, who posted in this thread, bought the £75 offer directly from Sky and says he was told by Sky that the box must be connected to a telephone line.

However, the offer mentioned in this thread is for Dixons/Curry's. So for Dixons purchases, where exactly does it state that the satellite receiver included in the £75 offer must be connected to a telephone line? I have been through the details on the website, as well as the various transaction related emails and receipts that I received from Dixons, and nothing mentions mandatory connection to a telephone line.

As far as I am concerned therefore there is nothing to compel me to connect to a telephone line. If there is something in the box then it won't be legally binding as it isn't mentioned as a condition of the sale - in fact the sales information on Dixon's website specifically states "No contract". I guess I'll know more in the next couple of days when my box arrives.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Is there any clever way to use Sky Plus with this? Seems a pretty good offer, but I'd like to be able to pause/rewind/use the EPG. I know that Sky Plus is meant to be free now.

My understanding is that you only get Sky Plus with a subscription, although there is no monthly charge for Sky Plus itself any more. To get it with this deal you would need to wait until the end of the 6 month "trial" then you would need to subscribe to the £15/month two channel mix package and pay £99 + installation for a Sky Plus upgrade. You can't just plug a Sky Plus box into a standard Sky dish as the plus box needs 2 x LNBs so extra cabling and hardware need to be installed on your dish. Once the Sky Plus box is installed you wouldn't have any extra costs other than the £15/month subscription.

That bit I understand, that's not my question. What I'm interested in is where it tells me that I need to connect the receiver to a phone line in the first place? I wonder if the connection requirement even applies to the Dixons offer.

With normal Sky you are supposed to have the phone line plugged in, looking on the Dixons site there are no t+c i presume they will be in the box with the info they send

The crucial information you require is quite clearly stated as below: -

"You can even normally connect your equipment to your phone line at no extra cost so you can enjoy more of the interactive services on offer"

See at the bottom of this page on dixons website: -

    http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/editorial/skytv?int=hp-promos%20Sky%20TV&camp_id=!!!sitename#WHAT_IT_COSTS

My understanding is that you have the option to have it connected to your sky box at the time of fitting however it is optional and you have the choice to say No you don't want it connected.
    Cheers

The cost of the 2 mixes of channels is currently £15/month - so they'd cost £90 over 6 months.

However, bear in mind that, from 1/9/07, Sky is again increasing its subscription rates and, in the case of 2 mixes, that will raise the fee to £17/month (£204/year).

Obviously, Sky's aim with this promotion is to capture more subscribers and so they're hoping that 6 months' 'free' viewing of 2 mixes will 'encourage' many who go for the £79 loss-leader to start subscribing. The minimum subscription is 2 mixes though - £17/month or £204 a year!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi All

Got my little box of info though this morning :o)

Quickly phoned sky on the "saynoto0870" number

After 3/4 sky answered for them to take another 15 mins to say they have never heard of this offer & it is not on the Dixons/Currys offer lists!!!!

Phoned Dixons who are going to look into it - will take a week for HO to respond...

Not very happy at the mo
