Hi,
Someone earlier in the post said that there is no longer a charge for using the Sky+ service.
Anyone know if there is a way you could pay more, and get a no commitment Sky+ box?
Cheers0 -
Does anyone know if you need a telephone line for this?
If not then it is definitely ideal for me -I'm in a non-freeview area (will not be until 2012), don't want to pay £125 for a BT phoneline and have to pay £10.50 for line rental for a phone I won't use and then sky monthly subscription/or virgin media on top of this.
I would be laughingMoney, money, money. Must be funny, in a rich man's world. :rolleyes:0 -
So Sky is really getting worried about Freeview and Freesat and is trying to lock people into using their Astra delivery method.
When analogue gets turned off, there will be many more channels available, and some of channels will be tempted to leave Sky Package, especially as Virgin said no more ££££££s Mr Murdoch. Sky are desperately trying to increase their user base and stop churn ( people cancelling) because of the comming competiton.
In the next few years there will be space for literally hundreds of channels via your aerial in the old BBC/ITV/4 and 5 channel space that will be left empty. Presumably BBC Freesat will give us an indication, after all CH4 seems to prefer that to Sky as an example.
If you like the Sky package then Payles's contract option mentioned in post#45 seems much better value with the cashback and phone/BB in the short term.ac's lovechild0 -
IMHO This £70 odd deal is fairly good in some circumstances BUT , but for those willing to have a credit check
Sign up for £15pm inc free channels + 2 mixes ( min term 12m = £180)
Link via quidco ( - less £85 cashback)
Get £10 online discount from sky
so intead of getting a £Freeview" box and 6 months of some channels
for £79, you get box and 12months for net (assuming cashback paid) of £85
Also by being on contract, if you want ( no obligation) you could get free broadband and free offpeak 01/02 calls via sky
both the "in the box £75 deal " and contract includes standard installation
Both require also customer to be new to sky
not sure but would guess both require an initial period of plugging the box into tel line
I just went to the SKY website to have a look at this and it says there are one off costs of £129 for the box and installation. Add on the £180 for 12 months take off £85 for quidco and the £10 online discount and you are paying £214 for 12 months as opposed to £78.95 for 6 months.0 -
Out of pure curiosity I looked at the selection of channels on this offer...What a load of rubbish!
Who wants to watch stuff like Real Estate TV or Wine TV for heaven's sake?And there's more of the cr*p quiz, gambling and shopping channels too.:( Urgh!
I know we are lucky in that we can receive Freeview now (after I did some wiring work to achieve it) and with our Virginmedia phoneline we get the basic Cable TV channel package included for FREE anyway.
These both cover the few assorted channels with quality programmes that we actually do want to watch, (while avoiding the large quantities of cheap, terrible Idol-Dance-'Talent' or Reality-type programmes that infest the schedules nowadays! :eek:)
This deal would only be good for people who can't get Freeview and any other basic channels due to location problems. Otherwise it's a lot of money for nothing.0 -

thats for sky+ box, rather than normal sky box although note they have added a £30 free for installation on the new contract!Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Unfortunately nearly all the 200 channels on here are the 200 that Sky subscribers flick over trying to find something decent.
They're really really bad.
It's not mentioned in the introductory post, but even though the Freeview channels might be fewer in number, their total viewer numbers&hours is higher.
On Sky, you don't get:
* E4
* More4
* abc1
* UKTV History
* UKTV Bright Ideas
which you do get on Freeview.
Looking at the missing channels from Sky on Freeview, there is just sooooo much dross. Anyone for "Audi Channel"???? I would challenge anyone to find one single channel in that list not available on Freeview that is worth watching.
The true money-saving tip here is to point out that a £20 freeview box is a much better buy than £80 for endless channels of crap that nobody in their right mind would ever watch, a bodged installation, and an ugly satellite dish disfiguring your house.0 -
With all due respect it's worse than Freeview! Unless of course youre into Tv shopping...Official DFW Member 587 :T0
