My understanding is that existing Sky subscribers can get FreeSat for as little as a £20 one-off payment.

    Almost.

If you are with Sky and cancel you will automatically get all the channels in the free package. No £20 required.

If you have a Sky box, but no viewing card you will get all the channels in the free pack except Channel 4, Five and Sky Three. Paying £20 will get you a viewing card to see these too.

Unfortunately the terminologgy is very muddled in the free-to-air world, with many people refering to Free To Air/View Satellite as Freeview. Freeview is the marketing name for the service available through your aerial, nothing to do with satellite.

As for what new channels will come on BBC/ITV/PSB Freesat, the answers probably none. It's just really a new box with non-propreitry interactive features, and possible the options of HD/PVR features that FreesatFromSky doesn't offer. The only change is that it's widely believed E4/More4 will be available free sometime next year when their current contract with Sky ends.

Anyone know what the "box" is like for the £79 offer? Some thing reasonable new and fast, or a load of old stock Sky are trying to get rid of?

IMHO This £70 odd deal is fairly good in some circumstances BUT , but for those willing to have a credit check

    Sign up for £15pm inc free channels + 2 mixes ( min term 12m = £180)
Link via quidco ( - less £85 cashback)
Get £10 online discount from sky
so intead of getting a £Freeview" box and 6 months of some channels
for £79, you get box and 12months for net (assuming cashback paid) of £85

Also by being on contract, if you want ( no obligation) you could get free broadband and free offpeak 01/02 calls via sky

both the "in the box £75 deal " and contract includes standard installation
Both require also customer to be new to sky
not sure but would guess both require an initial period of plugging the box into tel line

Although this is probably the cheapest way of getting something like 'men and motors' (which used to be on freeview but was dumped in favour of something like ITV Play).

    Hi All
I would be interested in this deal IF it aired all the regional BBC and ITV channels. Recently the BBC aired the England game but viewers in Scotland did not get to see it. There are many examples of opportunities to channel hop on the same channel but within regions.

I believe that the full sky package does this-anyone know if the freeview does the same?

This is not always the case.

For example the BBC has rights to some games in Scotland which can only be shown in Scotland. These do not appear on the BBC1 Scotland Sat feed. You just get a nice caption for the duration of the game.

I have used the facility to watch something being shown on BBC 1 in London a lot earlier than in Scotland, where there may be some sort of local opt out.
We all evolve - get on with it

depends if you get around the condition ( as I read it in Asda store ) that you could not take offer if already ( you or household) a sky deal before

Does anyone know do you actually get to take the digibox away from the store? I've got freesat and the digibox is playing up and a new box costs £149.
