Today was a top up shop of:
R485 at the supermarket. (tea, tinned toms, wine, bread, yoghurt ect)
R150 at the butcher (chicken, chorizo and ham)
R110 at the green grocer (fruit and veg for the week)
A total spend today of R745 or around 41 pounds.
So far I am at R2145/R2500 or 121/140 pounds.
Looks like I might be cutting it a bit fine for my first month!0 -
First month is always the hardest as you are learning a new way of using your budget
You'll pick up some good tips and get into the swing of it soon, good luck!
Small spend today ran out of dishwasher tablets and hadn't made bread as we were having a few bread free days. Had a teddy bears picnic with food for children only so popped into a deli and bought ham offcuts and bacon - now I have some bread I fancy a bacon sarnie for breakfast or lunch tomorrow. Spent £6.56, hoping for a low spend week but I will need to get some more cupboard staples soon.Stay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

I agree, the first month is the hardest - even for thoses of us who have done it before but slipped off the wagon! Today, I had to get yogurt, decaff coffee, porridge oats and marg for baking. Went to l!dl and spent £4.75. No extras! I still need golden syrup and ginger for oaty breakfast bars. I am trying to bake rather than buy biscuits and cakes as I have bits to use up in the cupboard ( dried fruit? apricots?nuts etc) Off to update my sig!

(I made the sarnis not supermarket bought so it was still MSE)SPC~12 ot 124

Did a small shop at Morrys and bought:
Milk £0.84, Savers flour £0.45, Tin tomatoes £0.31, baking powder £1.29, tin mushy peas £0.16, 4 Danone yogurts £0.84, used £1voucher (I get a voucher for £1 off Danone every month by signing up to their newsletter) Also got free Leerdama cheese (see freebie forum) should have been £1.79...gave my voucher at the till and got £2 off:j Total spend £3.68.
Anyone know if baking powder is cheaper anywhere else, seems expensive at £1.29. I want to make some muffins and adding some blackcurrants from the garden.GC - Oct £36.17/£31
GC - Sep £35.56/£30:o

Hiya, Aldi baking powder 69p. I know, I bought it the other day as Asda was also 1.29. Aldi pretty reasonable for baking stuff. On the same subject who does cheap golden syrup? It varies madly in price!

Jinty,
I tend to pick it up on offer but if not Sainsbobs do their own brand one (680g) for £1.25 - Lyons is £1.15 for 454g or £1.95 for 907g pretty much everywhere.
Had 2 more NSDs on the GC budget so up to 12/15. Think I will be ok with this goal!
Notices a few comments about the first month being the hardest. I totally agree but I think it's about changing your mindset to planning and making do. If I don't have a list or just nip in to a shop in a bit of a rush without a plan I've had it!
