Oh Gosh - I'm really sorry and hope you not in too much pain. I know from your posts you are quite resilient and I remember when I fell and broke a bone in my hand and was in plaster for 8 weeks that you do find ways round things.
    • Have a look in charity shops etc for an electric can opener for starters.
    • Heavy pans - use a mug to load/unload a large pot into a jug (has handle so can carry)
    • For the oven you can lift light trays with a towel over plaster and oven mitt over other hand. Do you have slow cooker for casseroles etc or borrow one (or buy one as always useful) ?? Use mug again.
    • Wet stuff - make a 'dry wrapper' using some bin liners and elastic bands.
Good luck and hth and it's sorted in time for your trip :)
    Thanks for this :)

If I know in advance what tins I need I'll get DS1 to open before he goes to bed/work (night shift worker). Fortunately I'm using up packet soups at the moment, so that's one thing I can still do :D

It's as much tipping a large pan to scrape as moving pans that's giving me problems. I can't even do the scraping with my broken one. I have a slow cooker, but have never made a decent stew or minced dish in it (use it for gammon joints and whole chickens) - and I'd have the same problem with scraping it anyway.

Think oven work should be easier at home. I only ever use my combi which is on a work surface, but all I have where I'm staying is a tradional freestanding one and even trying to get a good enough grip on a baguette or ready meal to allow me to stand up (with no hand hand to stabilise myself) is tricky. I can't use the cast to support anything - any weight on it at all still has me seeing stars (saw the X-rays yesterday and it is a bad break - still another 2.5 weeks while they can consider operating to insert pins).

I managed to wash my hair one handed yesterday :) Figured it was best to try before I went to the hospital, as if I got it wet it wouldn't mean an additional 80 mile round trip to get it replaced :D

I don't want to risk having to cut the trip short because of my wrist (very aware it'll still be weak), so I'm delaying it until next year - either heading out April or September. I'd not booked travel yet and haven't bought anything for it that won't keep, so I'm not going to be out of pocket :)

Hi All small spend of £6.97 from yesterday to add to totals on bag of chips, bread and lunch box stuff because the man dustbin had consumed all that I had bought at the weekend. Typical lol:o

Did a double take then read that as dustbin man instead of man dustbin :rotfl:

NSD yesterday but will have to go out today. Kids driving me mad already today and it's only 9am lol

Oh bother just had knock on door and my unexpected delivery for Abel & Cole was there (with delivery man of course). I forgot to change frequency grrrr oh well meat for the freezer won't hurt and it spurred me onto cancelling my Hello Fresh box, which though lovely I can't really work into the budget.

Cw18 - ouch! Hope you heal quickly and you're not in too much pain x

We are struggling to keep within the weekly budget at the moment. I'm hopeful though that we have enough in to delay the next shop which should bring it back into line.

I'm mindful that school holidays are fast approaching and we always spend more on groceries during the main holiday

My combi does brilliant jackets - about the only thing I use it for other than traditional (small volume) oven cooking :D

Thanks :) For someone who doesn't like taking meds I'm taking plenty at the moment (still clock watching for the next dose). Fortunately brought loads with me in case my back decided to play up, but have still had to ask OH to bring some more up for me tomorrow!

Morning ladies, hope everyone is doing well today.

Have had nsd's since 29/6 except one where I got some milk and eggs £2.55. Yesterday I had Mr T, deliver the essentials needed to help me clear the freezer ready to move. Dairy, fruit, juice, coffee, cereal (to give variation to porridge) and sweets for dd as she has a residential weekend trip. £32.02.

Hope to save some money to go towards moving costs in the next few months. Only buying essentials, using up what we have in the cupboards is the course of action for the day. some strange combinations coming up I'm thinking. :p:p:p

  • week one of the school holidays just about over, dgs goes home tomorrow and the next three arrive on Sunday.

Oh and I are taking advantage of the mini break to head away for the weekend, hopefully for some r&r before the next onslaught.

I find that mealtimes are a bit of an issue, all 4 are "faddy" eaters, so meals become really simplified and boring. Any suggestions would be very welcome
    Cheers

Finally got my spreadsheet updated with spends from Friday, Sunday and Wednesday.

Now on £111.29 / £290.69, which means 32.3% of the way into the month and 38.28% of the way through my budget.

Back at hospital on Thursday of next week, and hoping to take friend who helped out on Monday/Tuesday for something to eat. Need to decide whether it comes out of this budget (it'll be her, me and my OH) or my 'everything else' money. I don't budget for meals out or take-aways because I don't do them.......
