Hi guys, I'm a single mum to a 4 year old boy. He is extremely fussy with food (hes autistic) so I know I can't completely stop with his certain foods but I'd like to cut down and challenge myself. I can't even say how much I spend as I don't know, I don't keep track. Bearing (baring?) In mind I only have to feed me!! How much is a realistic budget for a month for 1 adult and 1 child, with the occasional visit of the OH? I get paid on Wed 28th and would like to start then. Thank you.

My phone likes to use full stops instead of spaces sometimes, I type too quickly and it would take forever to go back and change them all, so please excuse them!

That really isn't something any of us can answer. If we all listed what our family make up was, what we include in our budget (some include toiletries and/or cleaning products and/or pet supplies and/or kitchen supplies such as foil and/or alcohol and/or take-aways and/or eating out, while others - like me - don't), and how we then set our budgets you'd see there probably aren't any 2 the same. Mine is really high compared to most people on here, but it works for me as I've started using high quality meat products and also started doing a lot of exercise which means I need a lot more calories and a lot more protein.

The most important thing (in my opinion) is that you set it at a level that won't put you into debt and allows you to eat foods you like rather than low quality you don't just to make savings if you don't need to make that many.

For your first month I'd suggest stabbing a guess, keeping track of everything you spend (and what on), not feeling bad if you go over budget, and then at the end of the month look at what you bought and see if you can see anywhere to make savings. Then set your July budget based on that :)

Good plan, ill keep everything for June and then can sort through and realistically set a budget for July. Don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place haha!! Thank you

Hi, please put my down for £150 for June - this is for me, my husband, my 5yo and 1 yo sons and my 15yo and 11yo stepdaughters who are with us every other weekend. We have a good amount in the freezer and store cupboard and really need to get the spending back under control. We meal plan for the month and have spent £24 of that so far which sounds a lot but we got a lot of fruit and veg in Lidl yesterday. The £150 will need to cover us until 24th June and will include nappies for the small one and pretty much everything actually! We make our own bread so need to buy fresh stuff and milk :) Thank you!

I have as usual overspent at this point, although got some really good YS stuff and other veg. Plus loads of dried beans, nuts and seeds and pulses for the cupboard as these all figure pretty highly in my diet for protein and vitamins and minerals.
However, Fresh veg is now going to be a problem for the four weeks after this one so need to see if I can find a tenner from another budget to top up this months groceries. I refuse to go over £90 though.

I ate out at VegFest as planned for the weekend lunches and dinners. Today I had a snacky lunch of things from VegFest and then Veggie burgers (again from a stall at VegFest!) and salad for tea today.

Lunches this week are the usual grain and bean salads this week with walnuts and mixed seeds.

Dinner tomorrow and Wednesday is YS Stir Fry veg which I will cook with soy and teriyaki sauce in stir fry oil and add sesame seeds and serve with brown rice.

Thursdays I have mum over for dinner so make an effort, this week my sister may possibly be coming too. I will probably do homemade foccacia again which was amazing last time and so cheap and easy to make yet delicious! Probably with roasted veg / salad and homemade houmous.

    £66.27 spent
    £7.73 remaining

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi,
I'd like to sign up for June please. I'm going to go for a total of £210 for the month slightly more than £52 a week but less than the £250 month odd I have been spending the last few years.

    Good morning all!!
Nsd on its way here today. Got a friend/colleague round for a work at home day today, so shouldn't be any temptation to go out.

I've spent the last few days pottering around tidying and cleaning, and it's amazing how much better I feel with that done. It's nowhere near perfect, mind you, but it's sooo much better! It means that I can now empty out my fridge (when friend has gone!) and give it a good old sort out and clean. Think I might be making some bendy soup soon!

    Have a good day everyone!
