How do you cope when you can't move?

  • I cant sleep, never can these days. After the noisey nights situation i havent been able to fall asleep. I read till my eyes hurt then just lie here for hours and hours.

I dont feel upset. I am though feeling so ready to move snd determinef to make it a reality one day that its almost like im literally just lay here waiting and i will sleep when we're in our next house.

Dont know how to break this cycle. Think subconciously i cant fall asleep because my body got in to the habit of being woken up so often.

I guess that's adrenaline running through? As in...you are on constant alert in case of a situation that needs dealing with...

It does take a while to break that sort of cycle after the precipitating event/series of events is over with and you no longer have to be "on alert". Fingers crossed it won't be much longer.
  • You're spot on. Even though things have improved im anticipating an all night party starting just as ive gone off to sleep.

We actually got an offer at full asking price before it went on the market - the neighbours weren't in when the couple viewed but if they'd asked about them I would have said that they are friendly because they are. They help us out and have even started collecting boxes for us and they water our garden plants when we're away so they're nicer to us than they are to each other! They also have 4 Siberian huskies and no carpets so you can hear them running up and down the stairs at night too!

To be honest I could probably tolerate them for a while longer but I am looking forward to getting away from them. She is also the gossip of the street and really nosey she's been wanting to know the ins and outs of everything since we moved in!

With regards to saving to move, I'd suggest setting yourself a realistic target and deadline it really motivates you. Since we decided we would go for it and move house, we've cut out takeaways, only eat out very occasionally and I've cut out having coffee out (£3+ in some places! once or twice a week really adds up!). I've also really cut down on unnecessary spending like clothes etc, which is difficult when you have children as they always seem to need something but if you don't mind second hand clothes then charity shops and eBay can be a godsend!
So since February we've managed to save £4,500 without even really trying!

I wish you loads of luck and hope you can get a plan in action soon even just knowing you're getting closer to moving will improve your mood no end

Wow your neighbours really dont sound that bad. I know my debt free date and everytime i make an overpayment on the debt repayments i recalculate my debt free date, i find that helps motivate me. Looking it at months (even though it started at 109 months) feels better than if you look at it in years.

I think the summer hols are going to be tricky. Everyone i know is going abroad and doing lots of expensive days out. Im going to still try to make an overpayment so i might have to stick to days at rhe beach - will only cost petrol and ice cream money.

    Any advice

The walls are paper thin - I irritates listening to everybody's daily life.

I live in a deprived area which is depressing.

I long for the days when I can sit in my back garden on a sunny day and just enjoy the sunshine and some peace and quiet without idiots having loud music on, shouting at one another, swearing etc.

I like my actual house though, it's just a shame about the location, area and neighbours!!!!!!

    If you can't beat them...

I assume the fact you like your house means you've designed it how you would enjoy it so it's just about hearing others outside. So play music that sets the mood for your home. It doesn't have to be loud - just loud enough to help you focus your mind on sounds you would prefer to hear.

Get on YouTube and see what relaxing videos come up. Your tastes may vary but here's a few to start you off:

Neighbours are ok just noisy layabouts who drink beer all day and then argue all night - like I said they're friendly towards us just not to each other! Not the sort of people anyone would particularly want to live next to but tolerable I suppose they could be worse!

Are there any free local magazines in your area? We pick ours up from the local library or the charity shop. There's often free events listed in those, also places like libraries, galleries and museums often have special free to attend events - so its worth trying to find out about these. We've seen kids club free days, story time in the library, party in the park type events, free craft days, all sorts. Planning ahead means you can save money with packed lunches etc but also might give you something to look forward to.

I think sites like netmums have lists of free days out, so might be worth checking on there (and on here too) for days when its too wet/cold or you just fancy a change from the beach. All the best :)
