How much to pay a live in carer

This has all degenerated into irrelevancies.
The original title of the thread is 'How much to pay a live-in carer?' This, to me, implies an employed person. We've had pages and pages of whether carer's allowance can/can't be paid at the same time as income support. But someone who was being paid to do a residential job as a carer, looking after someone in his/her own home, would be getting a wage, not a benefit.
Pages back, the person who has taken up the biggest share of verbiage on this thread said that 'the carer sleeps when the caree sleeps'. Not necessarily. That was in response to someone saying the carer wants to go on a holiday. A carer has a moral obligation, a duty to fulfill.0 -

( just to add... even a friend/family member/'odd stranger' that claims CA is entitled to time off, and yes,,, even a holiday!

Yes sure when appropriate arrangements have been made so that the caree can be looked after by someone else.
Slavery is when someone is made to work without consent.
All I was saying was that a carers job comes with a lot of responsibility. You cant just walk out of it without making and ensuring that the caree is looked after once you're not there.0 -
and you think that people that care and receive carers allowance just walk away and leave the person they care for unattended?
with regards to a paid carer ... they have no responsibility to make sure other care is in place. they are paid for set hours and have no responsibility beyong this.
it is the person who arranges the care that has the responsibility to arrange cover.
paid carers have the same employment rights as any other worker.
paid holidays/sick pay etc.
a big difference to thos that 'work' 35 hours a week minimum for £65. they have no rights, only responsibilities!

the fact that an employed carer isbt responsible to arrange cover when they have time off persuant to their contract of employment or that a carer who receives CA should be allowed respite from the never ending responsibility?

Yes, I agree with Cattermole above. We're on our way to Tamworth today but it's very very wet at the moment. Back tomorrow. I wonder if there'll be another 20 pages of nonsense by the time we get back. It's incredible. We are Rose's mum's age-group but are still fortunate enough to be able to make our own choices and get out and about.
