How much to pay a live in carer

Sorry but I have been getting it for 4 years. When I got CA I was not told about IS but after 4 months I found out applied and got it. They would not back date it but I went to tribunal and because they had worded a letter wrong they awarded me the back dated. So I am afraid you are wrong and I am happy to show you my post office account to prove it. Everyone has taken over my thread and quite frankly are wrong on some counts and certainly this one.
WRONG. CA as I said cannot be paid to someone who is in receipt of IS. You will not get any money instead you will only get carers premium. That's because you cannot get CA if your income, even if its true income support (IS), is above 400 a month. If you've been in receipt of both CA and IS and have been getting paid for both (getting actual money), then they'll probably claim it back or something.0 -

If you can get extra hours with a DP you should have then the flexibility to use an agency or employ direct However SS if you employ direct wont do it on a casual basis. You could see if the lady you want to use with your Mum the agency would take her on, this isn't an uncommon solution, this can save the hassle of being an employer. It wont hurt to do it casually to try this weekend especially if its someone you know.
I really hope you can enjoy your break this weekend.
Nanny is correct about the CRB for adults not SH I could dig the guidelines up for DP but on my mobile. If employing direct there is no compulsory CRB obviously advisable though if a stranger.
Enjoy your weekend and I hope it goes well with Social Worker next week. Make sure they do a reassessment of need and emphasis your concerns.
ENTIRELY WRONG. CRB is required even if employing directly.0 -
This link does not tell me anything contradicting what I said. ... hey wait a minute. You might be right.
But with ESA you cant get CA, you only get carers premium. Does this not hold true with IS?0 -
you really do need to but out because you have no idea what you are talking about!
carers allowance is oaid, with a top up of income support to make it the same as a full income support award.
THEN a carters premium is affed.
the benefit entitlement therefore is CA, IS AND carers premium
so you can get CA IS and CP all in one go? Whats carters premium by the way?0 -
Ok I've looked it up a bit, you cannot claim CA if you get more than 100 a week.
I know that holds true if you are inreceipt of ESA, even income based.
why is IS any different?0 -

I get IS with a carers premium and CA. My income support is reduced by the value of the carers allowance bar the amount of the premium.
All above board, checked and verified by the relevant authorities and legal.
As an example - Income support as a single person £72.40
Minus Carers allowance of £61.35
Plus carers premium of £34.20
Which gives the total of £45.25 of income support paid per week plus carers allowance of £61.35.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/what-youll-getAny means-tested benefits you get will be reduced by the same amount you get from Carer’s Allowance. This includes:
- Housing Benefit
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
Look abvoe in bold. I was right, you CANNOT get IS as it gets reduced by amount of CA therefore cancelling it out. In other words you just get carers premium.
As usual I was right all along!!!! Now that link I gave is a .gov link, anyone contradicting that must come up with something more concrete!0 -

There you go, and thats EXACTLY what I said all along.
Honestly I...I'm just amazed its like everyone has a moral obligation here to disagree with me and say it in another way to come to the same conclusion which I was saying all along really.0 -
It really isn't, you said you cannot get IS and Carers allowance at the same time....you can!
MY IS award is reduced by £61.35 and the last time I looked, £72.40 minus £61.35 still leaves £11.05 Income support before the carers premium is added on.
They arrive as seperate entities on my bank statement and on different days, not as one sum. Income support of £90.50 every fortnight and £61.35 of Carers Allowance every Tuesday. We made it! When I said you cannot get, I meant you cannot get! I mean the thing I was (as usual rightly) saying was that you dont get the money, the actual cash. So whether you are entitled it or not, what matters is the money. So basically you just end up getting paid IS (and not CA) and you get CP added onto the IS. That's how I look at it, and that's how it should be looked at rather than saying you get CA and its 'topped up' by IS. Its simply incorrect terminology.0
