Applied for this and received an email saying I can not be approved. They said they will post a letter in few days why for this.

Could it be because I didn't tick the box where it asks me to use my income for that account?

I have also stated that I have an existing bank, I didn't tick the box where it asks if I have a debit card.

There are reasons I can think of why I can not be approved.

I was turned down with M&S too. The letter will more than likely be a standard 'credit scoring' rejection letter. Any number of reasons could be the reason they didn't want you. From my experience they don't tend to accept students so income may be a good shout.

Out of curiosity, can I apply again in a few weeks? I should have ticked the income question...

Will see what the letter says, doubt it'll be be any help.

  • Morning all, I am just looking for some advice based on other's experience please.

I have had a letter confirming the switch has been made but there is no mention in that of the giftcard. It also wasn't mentioned in the final telephone conversation when I confirmed I had received papers and happy to go ahead with the switch. It was mentioned in the previous 2 phone conversations though.

Do you think I need to phone them again to chase it up or should I automatically receive the gift card in around a month from the switch date? I would rather not phone them again as it is very long winded although they are very pleasant but of course I do want the gift card!

I have read back the last couple of pages of this thread but haven't seen the answer so far.

I was thinking of opening the M&S current account for access to the regular saver (in addition to my FD one). It would be nice to be able to get the voucher for switching as well. I currently have 4 other current accounts but do not want to switch/close any of them, so would need to open another account to switch. Is there a best account to open just for the switch? How many DD's/standing orders would I need to set up on the new account to get the switching bonus and would I need to switch my salary (as want to leave that where it currently is).

One with an existing provider would be quickest, and possibly not incur a credit search.

How many of each does it say are required in the M&S switching incentive T&Cs? (there weren't any when I switched but it may have changed).

Do the M&S switching incentive T&Cs say you have to switch your salary? (they didn't when I switched but it may have changed).

Couldn't find this info on M&S web site there was a link to T&C's for switching bonus but it opened a blank PDF, hence asking people who had already switched. I'll choose one of my existing banks to add a new account to.

Edit to add, Found another link on M&S site with working PDF

If you have an account or accounts with them that you'd rather not risk losing, better not incur their wrath! eg I have 4 Halifax Reward accounts so I'd never abuse Halifax by opening and immediately switching out another Halifax account.

Might be best going with another Bank then, I have FD (main account, Mortgage and reg saver - do not want to lose), Halifax )1 x Reward account for Incentive, plus clarity rewards credit card for £5/month), plus TSB (2 accounts for 5% interest). Wonder who will open a new account quickly for me.
