    my experience.

my account was set up and voucher paid very quickly so my OH decided to have a free £100 too....

application made, then a phone call from them to check some details from her. phone call ended with "you're accepted for and the account is now open".

letter arrived asking for "certified ID" which was a bit off as per the above call.

phone call made to M&S CS to ask if PO certification was acceptable - "yes" was the answer.

roll on over a week and nothing, OH rang M&S today to be told the PO service is NOT acceptable. when OH challenged this and stated it had cost £7+ CS went off to "trace the call to find who had told her PO was ok". predictably they couldn't find a trace of that call ever being made.

told M&S not to bother proceeding and how could we get our £7+ back? "we can only pay it into your new M&S account" - brilliant.

so for me and OH two polar experiences - very odd.

  • Hi guys. I just got my £100 from co op for switching. Do you think it would be ok to transfer all my funds to my main account, switch my 2 direct debits to my main account, and then switch the co op account to M&S for the £100 gift card? That being said I don't even know what they'd be switching? Or maybe I should leave a fiver in the co op one?

    Two options:

    1. Leave the DDs on Co-op and switch these.

    2. Move the DDs to your main account, and then set up a couple of small SOs on Co-op before switching.

So we are required to have some direct debits and standing orders set up? I couldn't find them on the t&c's which is why I was unsure.

You're not required to have anything set up, but, like you said, what would they 'switch' otherwise?

You could set up a couple of bill payments I suppose, but I always do a couple of SOs for offers such as these. Then again it's easy for me as I have so many accounts to choose from.

Do you think leaving a bit of money in there instead of the bill payments would be sufficient as they transfer that over right?

Some people (possibly even on this thread) have reported being successful with that approach.

I wouldn't adopt that approach myself though, as I said earlier.

I've switched an account with zero balance and no DDs or SOs. There doesn't need to be anything to actually 'switch' for it to work.

I applied more than 2 weeks ago.

4 days later I received an email stating: "We are still reviewing your application and we’ll contact you, if we need any further information, within 3 working days. Once we’ve completed your application, we’ll contact you to confirm the next steps."

It has been over 10 days and nothing since.

I'm really not bothered to call them up at this stage if this is how things are run.
