I applied more than 2 weeks ago.

4 days later I received an email stating: "We are still reviewing your application and we’ll contact you, if we need any further information, within 3 working days. Once we’ve completed your application, we’ll contact you to confirm the next steps."

It has been over 10 days and nothing since.

I'm really not bothered to call them up at this stage if this is how things are run.

I applied on 15th of October and yesterday my was switch date. Today I have checked and my halifax account was closed, so roughly 1 month for me from the initial application date.

How long between applying and proceeding to next steps of opening account, specifying account to be switched?

It was only a few days for me between applying and getting account details through (and a debit card). As soon as I had them, I was on the phone to them (there's an 0800 number so make sure you use that rather than the 0845 they put on the letters). My switch should be any day now - it got delayed a bit because either I read them the wrong debit card number from the account I was switching, or they typed it in wrong - they won't tell me who made the mistake as they claim it doesn't show them the number now and they could only find out by listening to a recording of the original call. (Not that I care but it would have been nice to know).

Been over 3 weeks since applying now, nothing since that one email message. Not bothered about this, don't want their account. They lose.

Well you've lost a £100 gift card. What have they lost?

My custom. I would chase up on it for the gift card but majority of messages suggest not worth the time and effort with yet more hassle to get the switch afterwards. Reminds me of Clydesdale/Yorkshire.

Some like Halifax just work. This one not worth the time and frustration.

But reading between the lines (with your mention of Halifax & YB/CB offers), you weren't going to give them any custom...just like the majority of the rest of us!

Or maybe I'm wrong and you did intend to transfer all your banking to M&S if the opening process was smoother? If I'm wrong I apologise. ;)
