For the word "FAIL", can we subsitute the word "ILLEGAL"? No, they weren't illegal. Not quite. There was just under half a millimetre too much tread to be actively illegal. Did the OP need new tyres? Yes.
shoe on other foot, you take you car to your local indi, he says Failed need new tires they 2.0mm tread depth, you say how is it a fail if the minimum limit is 1.6MM you fail my car when its not at its minimum ok they need changing, but at this present time their not illegal so why the fail. indi bloke, AHH you got me I was flogging you tires!.0 -
On the brakes I would probably trust KF this time as, lets face it, if they thought there was a chance they could sell you disks and pads for your car they would have tried too do so.0
-
Oh and the ten days grace thing is hilarious. "Your tires are ilegal and dangerous"
"Oh no! Change em, quick!"
"Nah it'll be alright for a week and a half regardless of milage and type of driving"
Sounds legit.0 -
Audi Prepare for your MOT
Audi say in that4. Wheels and tyres
Check all when rims and tyres are undamaged. The minimum legal tyre tread depth is 1.6mm (although it is recommended that tyres are changed when tread reaches 3mm) and any tyres with less than this will be marked as an MOT fail. If you’re unsure how much tread is left on a tyre, your Audi Centre can check for you.

how does that work surly the rules are set by VOSA not Audi0 -
have you had the Cam belt changed yet?
I would consider that to be far more serious than worrying about paying for wheel balancing twice
most Audi cars state cam belt change at 75000 or five years, you said yours is on 110,000 and is still on the original belt
my priority would be to get that changed0 -

Let me make it clear then: running your engine at any point with the oil light on does damage. Kwik fit have allowed you to do this. Not stopping straight awayis as adrian said, engine suicide. The other issues prove you've found a really shonky kwik fit.Its more that if the low oil level light comes on at any time it means there is a problem now and needs to be addressed, not drive with it on until the next service- which in your case was the day after.
For all you know it could be leaking out the engine and if you continued to run it when the light is on then the engine would seize which costs a lot more than putting in some more oil.
Any light on the dash that is red means attention now, not worry about it later.Umm, YES. Frankly, I don't care how much you've paid, or when, to top your oil up. If there is so little oil in that the engine is sucking air instead of oil, you SHOULD top it up IMMEDIATELY, yes.
No, you're missing the point that driving with the low oil pressure light on will kill your engine in VERY short order. You're also missing the point that basic maintenance such as levels, bulbs, tyres should be considered a regular, ideally at least weekly, check for all car users. And that - if those checks identify something needing attention - "I'll wait for the service/MOT/when-it's-convenient" is lax indolence.
Seriously, you're all wasting your time. The OP doesn't want that answer.0 -
But again why would i top the oil up when i was under the assumption it had bern topped up.
Oh FGS. You would top up the oil when the light came on because presumably, you'd prefer the car to last long enough for you to make it home/finish paying for it/get the kids to school or whatever.
Let me put it simply. Low oil level will mean the car ends up B-R-O-K-E-N.
So irrespective of whether you'd paid someone to change the oil, you should top it up yourself to keep the car W-O-R-K-I-N-G. Then go and complain to the people you'd paid, as already stated.Car maintenance is not usually my task in the household.
My wife normally does the washing, but when she's away for a while, I don't sit around in the same dirty pants for weeks at a time.0 -
Ok so complain to both kf and vosa about being failed on tyres. Even though they were borderline, i will complain, but not sure what recourse there would be for that, other than vosa saying it should have been an advisory rather than a fail.
As for the oil, i hear what you are all saying regarding an engine fail. All i can say is as soon as the light came on, i had a gut feeling they just didnt put enough in, and that turned out to be the case. I was stationary when i rang kwik fit, who were opposite me at the time, and they advised me to drive over (not realising i was opposite them in the adjacent car park).
Why would the screen dash state 'you may continue to drive' if it was a catastrophic issue, rather than simply needing a top up?
Edited to add they didnt fail me on the jets, that was not picked up by kf.
Amazing how all these little details are now coming out. You were just opposite KF, you rang them, they told you what to do, etc.
The dashboard can't tell you whether the car is leaking, only that the level is low. The correct course of action would be to check, or are you so rich you can afford to treat your Audi as disposable? Your signature suggests otherwise, so I'd advise treating the car with a little more care if you don't want to end up paying for another one.
KF don't have to fail the car on a dodgy jet, they don't need to both be working as long as there is sufficient fluid being pumped onto the screen to effectively clean it, as, once again, already stated.
My final thought on this - why don't you just go and pursue as many people as you think you can get away with for compo, because coming and asking for advice on a forum and then ignoring it isn't going to get you, or the rest of us, anywhere.0 -

i already stated i was near kwik fit when the light came on, and i already stated i was on my way to audi the second time the light came on. They are not little details coming up now, as the thread has progressed people have stated things i have replied to. If you would like maps and dots then please let me know.

my sig is out of date but thats irrelevant. You are shouting at me for something that has not happened. The oil light came on because there was not enough oil in, the prognosis determines that. You can shout at me some more for not filling the oil up myself before going back to kwik fit all you want. As a customer i paid for a service and i expect to get the service i paid for. How i am wrong there i dont know

someone else said the car failed mot on jets, i was clariying, please review the post inwas replying to

Right chip on your shoulder with me.
Again, why such the negative attitude with me. Aside from everyone saying dont go to kwik fit, you shouldnt have gone to quick fit etc. i paid for something i didnt get, and then i paid again elsewhere with contradictory results.
If you want to be helpful then please offer me factual advice, or 'from your experience' advice. I dont need to be compared to your wife washing your longjohns.
Ref the vosa and tyre advice, again people are stating different legalities. Burned to a crisp for supposedly driving around with dangerous tyres whilst getting ridiculed for 'not being bothered' the mot failed on tyres when they were still 'legal'.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500
