You can pass an MOT with pads and discs that are way past the replacement stage and would not get an advisory on it either.

I think the OP is confusing what the cars needs to keep it in best condition and what needed to be done to pass the MOT.

I would trust the report from the Audi dealer far far more than any spotty yoofs at Kwitknit.

I would get the works done at any decent indy garage.

I wouldn't allow/trust a KwitKnit nutter to wipe the flies off the windscreen.

Tyres with 2mm may be due for replacement on safety grounds - most manufacturers recommending replacing at 3mm - but they definitely should NOT fail an MOT.

Same concept regards the brakes discs - could pass an MOT but need replacing.

Thank you and lesson learned. I will not be going to kwik fit again. My issue still remains that all was tick as checked and fine in the service (not mot) when audi advise they need immediate attention.

Why do you not care that i paid someone to fill the oil up and they did not fill it up properly, how can that be my fault. Again for clarity.

Car service on Friday, all oil related work completed, like replace filter, top up etc.

Saturday, oil level light comes on, i drive straight to kwik fit who then top it up, or so they say.

Monday on my way to the adui garage to fix indicator lightbulb, oil level light comes on again. Audi top it up, and state not enough oil was out in.

So 3 times in the space of 4 days the oil was "topped up". Twice by kwik fit, once by audi. Clearly kwik fit did not "top it up" despite claiming they did.

The reason we may seem not to care is because you are preaching to the choir. You are telling us that KF are rubbish at servicing cars.

NEWSFLASH: We KNOW KF are rubbish at servicing cars, a simple google search will establish that.

<sigh> I'm very sorry if this is proving confusing to you - it's really quite simple.

I'm not saying it is your fault that the oil level was low. What I am saying is that your immediate and only reaction to finding the level low should not have been to continue to drive - but to stop, check the level, and top the oil up. By all means, then drive round to K-F and shout at them. Ask them to reimburse you for the oil that you've just used to top the engine up, since you've already paid for a sump-full. Goferit - and good luck to you with that.

So how often do you normally check the oil level?

I understand what you are saying but in my case, i was driving out of a car park that is opposite kwik fit when the light first came on. So naturally i drive round to them. The second time i was on a dual carriageway on my way to audi literally minutes away at the time. But again why would i top the oil up when i was under the assumption it had bern topped up.

As for how often i check the oil. Almost daily in the last 3 weeks. Before that, probably every three months when i fiddle around with settings. Car maintenance is not usually my task in the household.

If you check the oil daily, did you not notice it was low before the oil light came on?

Daily since ive had the issues. Before that the last time i checked it was shortly before the service, it was low but as service was imminent i only put in 1/2 litre as that is what i happened to have left

1.you took car to monkeys who didn't have clue about checking the oil level electronically so they GUESSED and got dazed and confused by no physical dipstick and by guessing they underfilled the engine by a good amount to have a oil level warning.

2.They failed your car because of the tires and jets, but the tires are not a fail as you discovered but are quite numb to the fact this has been done to you so choose to ignore this fact!!! YOU DIDNT NEED NEW TIRES with 2.0mm tread depth left they were border line, but not a FAIL repeat NOT A FAIL REPEATED AGAIN FOR CLARITY NOT A FAIL.

Why should have you stopped with a warning displaying something to do with oil level, well A because your engine could have bleeding out oil from a poorly tightened sump plug, your ignorance to the fact the car is telling you something important (because it had been preciously filled up) is infuriating as because had it been a full on bleed out and had you ignored it like you did this thread would be about a SEIZED ENGINE.
you owner manual will tell you a oil level warning you should stop and check your level, if you CANNOT DETERMIN THE LEVEL then call recovery to prevent damage.

What you should DO is forget about what AUDI says about your pads and discs its a spiel to find work on your car, £30 for an indicator bulb! ill fit your next bulb for that you could make me rich!.

You should REPORT KF to VOSA for failing your car with tires with 2.0mm tread depth left, and stating you could drive your car around for 10 DAYs whilst your tires were on order!!
get KF to reimburse your balancing charge you had paid with the lack of servicing you paid for.

Ok so complain to both kf and vosa about being failed on tyres. Even though they were borderline, i will complain, but not sure what recourse there would be for that, other than vosa saying it should have been an advisory rather than a fail.

As for the oil, i hear what you are all saying regarding an engine fail. All i can say is as soon as the light came on, i had a gut feeling they just didnt put enough in, and that turned out to be the case. I was stationary when i rang kwik fit, who were opposite me at the time, and they advised me to drive over (not realising i was opposite them in the adjacent car park).

Why would the screen dash state 'you may continue to drive' if it was a catastrophic issue, rather than simply needing a top up?

Edited to add they didnt fail me on the jets, that was not picked up by kf.

For the word "FAIL", can we subsitute the word "ILLEGAL"? No, they weren't illegal. Not quite. There was just under half a millimetre too much tread to be actively illegal. Did the OP need new tyres? Yes.
