Ktf - i dont know why you reference the brake pads with warranty? My issue us kwik fit didnt pick up on the fact they needed replacing in my service or mot, not even an advisory. However audi stated they need replacing.

The point is you don't know which, if either, of them are correct. Are we now talking about brake pads? It was the discs earlier.

I refer you back to my original advice in post #2:

Advice I would give is this - get away from KF and the Audi main dealer (they're called 'stealers' for a reason you know). Ask friends, family for a local independent garage you can trust and take your car to them for their opinion. If no-one has one to recommend, ask some local minicab drivers who does their work - cabbers will always know the local place who does decent work at decent prices as they can't afford for their livelihood to be off the road

What was the exact wording in the Audi report and was it a visual inspection or did they measure the thickness? Did they say they were worn down to the rivets (scores on the disc, squealing noise when used) and needed replacing or just that they were getting low.

A lot of inspections from main agents will reveal a long list of items that need replacing (soon) in an attempt to get extra work out of the customer.

KwikFit may just have done a visual inspection and not even bothered to take the wheel off and/or depending on what they class as a 'service', it may not even be checked other than visually.

Not really tbh, inconvienient at the time maybe, but i knew they needed replacing soon and was prepared for that

    I give up.

So KF are incompetent/dishonest enough to fail your car when it doesn't need to fail (which looks worse when you come to sell your car if anyone checks its MOT history; fair enough if a car fails on something unseen, but for tyres to fail that shouts to me that the car has been neglected if the owner's happy to leave tyres until they're illegal before replacing them) and you're not bothered?

Let's hope they're competent enough to have properly fitted the brake pads/discs/shock absorbers/tyres/calipers etc on the next car they've serviced which needs to stop/take evasive action before crashing into you.

You're wasting your time there, I've tried to tell the OP this but the answer's clearly not what they're looking for.

    I'll have another go.

OP: Yes, KF were wrong, you should have only paid once, you can take them to court and make thousands in compo.

    Is that better?

Woah now attitude. Im not looking for thousands here. I am trying to get to the bottom of why two garages are telling me different things. I am clearly concerned that i paid out for a service and mot, and dont seem to have got what i paid for. Kwik fit not filling the oil up being a prime example.

The service included balance check and rebalance. As they hadn't completed the service before i had the new tyres on, i wanted to know why they charged me separately for a balance when it was Included in the service.

I look after my car, i drive around with my children in the car. I want it to be safe. I am prepared to pay what i need to to make that happened, but i do not want to be duped over. With the variety of contradiction between kwik fit and audi, i feel like i am being duped.

Just for reference, don't ask this particular question or you may find yourself being treated by the dealer/garage as an idiot. Brake pads don't have rivets these days, backing and friction material are bonded together.

Brake shoes used to have rivets, but they too are bonded these days.

In which case, I refer you once again to post #2 and latterly post #22 in which I have advised what to do.

In reference to your last paragraph, I'm sorry but your actions are contrary to your assertion that you look after your car. Allowing your tyres to wear to almost the legal limit before changing them is not very bright if you're so concerned about safety. Research is very clear on the decline in effectiveness of tyres in clearing water, and increase in stopping distances, once worn below 3mm tread remaining.

If this is the issue then you need to go back to kwikfit and ask them why they charged you for a balance check knowing that two tyres were going to be replaced then charging you again.

They may say that they were two bits of work (service first then new tyres second) and charged accordingly or they might say, sorry about that, here is the cost of the second rebalance back but unless you speak to them you will never know.

70% worn brake pads - advisory from audi NOT kwik fit
Discs worn - audi NOT keik fit
Washers front inop nsf 1 jet - immediate attention from audi NOT kwik fit
Cambelt overdue* - immediate attention audi NOT kwik fit.

On the service shhet kwik fit have ticked all as fine and not recommended for replacement

    * since found out they have never been changed despite being told full service history by dealer

£200 service and mot with kwik fit
    £200 health check audi

Meant to add that kwik fir advised me after the service and mot that they did not have the right diagnostic kit for my car

Kwik fit have stuffed you. By failing tires that are not a fail(not bothered by this) and not putting enough oil in(strangely bothered by this) and all the stuff above^^ Balance isnt a service item, and dont cost much either so dont be bothered bout that. Lesson learnt, dont use kwik fit.

I do look after the car. I get the tyres changed yearly but space them out so i dont have 4 changed at the same time. I have the car serviced inline with recommendations etc.
