Just a word to the wise. If this is a paid for version of McAfee installed by the supplier of your PC, e.g. Dell, then you need to be aware that 'Automatically Renew' will be set to ON using your credit card details in your McAfee account.

So, if you intend to ditch McAfee, make sure you visit your account on their website and turn Automatic Renewal to Off. ;)

I have a free trial which came with my Asus computer that is due to expire ...have not made an account with McAfee and prompt is on a count down to expiry date and an option to buy ...I will not be purchasing it but will carry out instructions given here to uninstall it ...I will either go with Windows defender or Avast ....Given that I have not made an account with McAfee I take it that I will not have to turn automatic Renewal to off because they would not have my credit card details because I purchased it from a well known online store?

Just remove it and reboot, that will be the end of it.

  • It says 'you do not have sufficient access to uninstall mcafeelivesafe - internet security. Contact systems administrator'

This programme came pre-installed and the trial period has run out. How can I delete it? Windows 8.1? Any advice greatly appreciated. Also, I,m a bit of a technophobe so easy peasy instructions would help.

You need to login to your PC as an Administrator account. (You'll have created one when you first got the PC, yes?)

Quite. But Maggie needs to uninstall McAfee ... installing Avast/MBAM won't help with that.
