Blimey - that was quick! Ignore what I said. Is it working? Updates will happen auotmatically (don't worry about Windows 8.1).
Which antivirus do you want? The default is Windows Defender which is ok as a minimum protection. AVAST (FREE) is better.

Good lol. I'd like avast but it seems to want me to have other things as well which I don't want eg pc pro. Need to pick up grandson from nursery now but will be back in about half an hour and hopefully we can continue :D

Get rid of Mcafee then. See previous post

I'm in and out for the rest of the day. If you download stuff in future do so from reliable source and read the text. Many downloads require you to UNCHECK extra stuff which you do not want.

As far as the printer is concerned plug it in and see if windows can find the driver automatically. If not you will need to tell us the exact printer make and model.

    I'm lost now...(not difficult).:D

You did a factory restore via the PC settings? Now it's all working OK? You have connected your Printer (wire or wireless?) and the laptop is not seeing it?

Forget about updating to 8.1.1 until you have everything else sorted..
