I know that better than anyone, my own mother could not breast feed me, as she had such severe mastitis that she was hospitalised and was hallucinating, therefore I was bottle fed until age 1.
Poor Woman that must have been awful with a newborn. Was it just the Mastitis that caused the hallucinations?:cool:0 -

It was the high temperature that she had caused by the mastitis. It was enough to give her septicaemia which is really rare from mastitis.
She can't remember much about my first couple of weeks, which is a shame really.
Needless to say she was advised not to try when my sister was born 2 years later.0 -

Completely understandable.
I loved Breast feeding, it was toe curling to begin with.. but then when that eases off it's OK.
I used that Le Leche or La Leche stuff to ease the pain.:cool:0 -

I will pass that info about La Leche on to my best friend who is currently 41 weeks and 3 days pregnant:eek: (being induced tomorrow) as she can't wait to breastfeed.0 -

It is Lanolin in a little purple tube... costs about £9 or £16 I think.
It eases the chapped nipple - mine were bleeding and a layer of skin coming off like scabs (sorry for the info).
It is something that you have to persevere with, the soreness really does go but then the likes of Mastitis can be awful.
It is just so damn easy to do aswell, no faffing around with bottles, just whip your top up and you're done
I started with the Twins but they were underweight and on donated breast milk in the hospital because although I was latching them on, they were losing weight quicker and the Colostrum wasn't helping - they needed Milk and quick!
I wanted to get out of the hospital too, and just thought that if I gave them formula milk it would fatten them up and level their blood sugar levels out - it did and I left the next day!:cool:0 -

Thank you. What a kind and considerate person you are.
"please be nice to all money savers?"
Yeah, right.
No one is forcing you to read anything, this is a forum and people can post here if they want to.
But apparently not if you don't like what they have to say.
It's a shame, because the house buying board has turned nasty, I thought it might be different here, clearly not.0 -
I will add my tuppence!!
My DS2 is 10 months old and has had cows milk in food, cereal etc since 7 (ish) months but WILL NOT have it as a milk drink til 12 months. Thats what we did with DS1 and what is right for us.
On the thread topic, I had to take my SMA progress back to Boots too as it was part of the recalled batch. I have some premade if i get stuck.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
Lilly please pass on the URL for http://www.howbreastfeedingworks.com to your friend. Sadly many healthcare professionals tend to be the least helpful and least knowledgeable people when it comes to breastfeeding. The numbers for all the support lines are listed there, should she need them.0

Oh and about the formula, babies over 6 months can still have stage 1 milk, stage 2/3 is a load of crap really to get around the formula advertising laws, stage 1 is fine for any baby ages 0-12 months and beyond if so desired.0
