By the way I am well aware of what bronchiolitis is and I was not suggesting force feeding a sick child, and in no way did I imply that you should.0

I don't have children, but I am afraid simply having them does not make you an expert. I have 6 years of study which allows me to be able to form my own opinions on these things and I need to be aware of current guidelines for my job.
When I have children, they will be fed on breast milk until such a time when I decide to stop, then if they are under 12 months at that stage, they will have formula milk. After that they have cows milk.
You cannot discount people's opinions simply due to not having children.
I don't discount my pharmacist's advice, for example, about my asthma, simply because he doesn't have the condition himself.

Well love, when you're done with whatever your studies are... you'd make an excellent Health Visitor:cool:0 -

The only certain thing that you can rely on when you do have children is that there are no certainties"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

I'm done with my studies ta, and I don't want to be a Health Visitor either, thanks.
PS I think the "love" bit is slightly patronising, and you are yet to find any evidence that what I have said is not true. (or even disagree with what I have said.) You seem to also believe that cows milk isn't a suitable drink, but you can't give your child any milk for a medical reason, which is fair enough.0 -

Yes I understand that, but it cannot be denied that there are ideals that people would like to follow. Making a decision not to follow them, for no particular reason, seems rather odd.
Evidence based medicine just doesn't seem to have caught on, people still ignore all advice, still turn up asking for antibiotics for their kid's colds etc etc.0 -

I do believe that keeping them on SMA progress is far healthier than Cows Milk. Sadly my Daughter wont drink it.
I find you being very patronising about what you will do WHEN you are a Mother.
Mrcow summed it up perfectly.
I said I wouldn't give her a Dummy. Oooops.
I said no MacDonalds for them at the age of 2. Ooops.
BEFORE I had the children I was so snooty about people giving their kids Dummies.. about all the babies sat in Prams munching on Food covered in it...
.. now, if my child is hungry and wants food and we are out. I will be the first you will see with a child stuffing its face in a Pram
Like I said, it is easy to be a textbook Mother and I hope when you do give Birth it is all textbook for you:cool:0 -

No they don't. Last place you will find me is at the Drs unless my child is limp, lifeless and can't eat or breathe.
I am not paranoid, not overprotective and certainly do not want to give them over the counter drugs to weaken their immunity to them.
'people' are not the majority.:cool:0 -

Yes they do.
Are you trying to tell me people DON'T turn up at the GP asking for antibiotics for a cold? YOU may not, that doesn't mean that a large number of people don't.
And I am afraid that the opinion that someone is totally naive and stupid because they don't have children of their own is entirely unreasonable.
I did not mention over the counter drugs either, or say you were paranoid or over protective, so I am unclear as to where this came from?
The wisdom of the world does not suddenly pop in to your head when you give birth, as alot of my friends with children are testament to.
Having children does not also make you more able to understand the evidence base behind something and make a decision.
I have said before that I understand and totally accept the reason why you don't give your child milk, so again, I am confused as to where this idea cam from.
So we are all agreed then, cow's milk is not a suitable drink for an under one? (you don't give your child cows milk so this isn't some sort of personal attack).
I am not trying to be a "textbook mother" in the slightest, I am just stating what the current evidence suggests is the best course of action. And I am afraid I couldn't care less whether the people doing the research were mothers (or fathers for that matter). What matters is their knowledge and research of the subject matter.0 -
Advice is widely available and it is up to each of us to decide if we take it.
Once you are a parent you make judgements on what is best for your child. Every child is different and regardless of the information out there, we know what is best, as nobody knows your child better than you do.:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.
If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.
