This is rather dangerous advice without giving an age limit on it.
Children under the age of 12 months should NEVER be given cow's milk. It can lead to serious health problems including anaemia.
After 12 months full fat milk should be given.
Formula milk is not a rip off. If you have stopped/never started breast feeding (which most people have by age 12 months) then there is no alternative.
A baby under 1 who is eating will get its vitamins and minerals from food.....it doesnt need them in formula too and so cows milk is fine.
It is only babies who are basically not eating that should have extra vits.
It doesnt lead to serious health problems and saying so will scare people rigid!!!
Look back a couple of generations and see how they managed to get on without all this rubbish about feeding baby this that and the other at so and so age. :rolleyes:0 -
No, it isn't untrue. I can't understand what everyone's problem is with taking current advice rather than making it up as they go along. Are you really trying to tell me that children generations ago were healthier?? My grandmother had a baby during the war which she couldn't breastfeed for medical reasons and bottle fed formula until age 1. She is 86, so it has been around for a fair while. Now days we have the lowest infant death rate EVER.

Here is a plain and simple leaflet for those of you who seem to have trouble reading proper medical studies rather than some new age rubbish with no back up found on the internet.
Why on earth people would choose not to give their babies what is advised after careful medical study (as far as I know none of you are world expert paediatricians) rather than assuming cows milk is fine is beyond me.
Cow's milk is NOT AN APPROPRIATE DRINK for an under 1, and that is not an opinion, it is medical fact.0 -
Well my first had Bronciolitis and pointedly refused formula from 6 months. She wont drink any Milk at all now, but it is still very healthy and eats well.:cool:0

Please provide a link to a (real) study that has been published in a peer reviewed journal.0 -

My Grandad has smoked 60 a day since he was 15 and is fit and well at 87. Doesn't mean smoking is good for you.0 -

Oh right smart@ss how do you propose getting Milk into a toddler then who point blank refuses to drink it? She loved her Milk until she got Bronciolitis and couldn't BREATH to drink it. We all know how Milk sits in their throats when they are ill.
She eats about 8 yoghurts a day, Mootubes and more yoghurts.. I think I do my best and I think my child is healthy.
EDIT: Do you have children or are you a textbook Mother.. by the way?:cool:0 -

I was actually referring to anecdotal evidence being useless rather than suggesting that your child is unhealthy.
Anecdotal evidence is often quoted as an excellent source, when actually it is unhelpful in general. I was illustrating this by providing proof that smoking helps you live to 87, which clearly we all know it doesn't.0 -

So do your children drink formula Milk or Cows milk? How old are they?:cool:0 -
I don't have children, but I am afraid simply having them does not make you an expert. I have 6 years of study which allows me to be able to form my own opinions on these things and I need to be aware of current guidelines for my job.
When I have children, they will be fed on breast milk until such a time when I decide to stop, then if they are under 12 months at that stage, they will have formula milk. After that they have cows milk.
You cannot discount people's opinions simply due to not having children.
I don't discount my pharmacist's advice, for example, about my asthma, simply because he doesn't have the condition himself.0
