Thanking someone for a gift

I'd definitely go with the "no presents after 18" with him.
Bit late nowAlready asked for bank details - and was planning on buying cheaper but my sis sort of put stop to that one! Felt too guilty not giving anything.
Could always get him a Starbucks card or something instead and spend say £20. I don't know why I'm feeling guilty as my sis only gave me £20 for my birthday from all of them.
I reckon I'll give £20. Hmmm.

As we have got older, we've got more and more fed up about not being thanked after we have sent carefully-chosen gifts, and money. Last year we even had to ring up to ask whether one parcel had actually arrived! It was so disappointing - we really enjoyed choosing something they wanted.
Talking about it to friends, it is bothering quite a lot of people!
All that is needed is a small card and a line saying thank-you, and another line to say what they'll do with the money etc. How hard is that?
We now stop giving if we are not thanked! Two young ladies who finally thanked us for their 2012 Christmas gifts and cash at the end of January, and still have not thanked us for their 2013 gifts and cash, will find that there will not be any gifts and cash for Christmas 2014!
If it is mentioned, we'll say that we didn't hear from them so assumed that they weren't bothered!
I agree. I've been to a few weddings over the last few years and always bought a gift but only received thank yous/acknowledgements from about half the couples. When we got married we wrote to everyone to say thank you within 1-2 months of the wedding.
If you really don't like writing cards, send an email or a text or call the person.0 -

Ab-so-lutely! If they can't be bothered to thank you, or even let you know a parcel had arrived, let them go without! I'm steaming! Rude! Rude! Rude! Ungrateful! Unappreciative! Spoiled! I could go on, but won't - might stretch the thread!Give them warning that presents will stop at 21, then.
You don't really want to be forking out for presents when he's 30 or 40 or 50, do you?
I would make this the last one. Say that, as he's now an adult, (!!!), this is the last present. And stick to it! If necessary, explain to sis that times is hard, so you have to draw the line, and you really can't afford to carry on shelling out money that YOU need! Still send card, though!(I just lurve spiders!)
