On your cheque deposit receipt that the bank gave you, is there an 'items' box with the number of cheques you deposited, if so this would strongly back your case as this would confirm how many physical cheques you handed over, RBS have this box on their deposit slips, so I hope Lloyds does.

They've already stated that "The cashier made a mistake and wrote the wrong number on the receipt, and we accept this and offer compensation for this" (or words to that effect)

I was asking about the items box, when you are depositing more than one cheque the Cashier should write the number of cheques that are being deposited.

Does it really make any difference whether the number was written in this 'box' or somehow differently?

Thank you, this is correct, should I wait for the lloyds final response in writing before contacting the ombudsman?

As Grumbler said, Lloyds are claiming that:
The wrong cheque GRAND TOTAL IN £ was keyed in
Along with the INCORRECT number of cheques ...

If it was just a typing error it would be just one field where the error was, but both! I dont think so!! This strengthens your case. As far as you're concerned your receipt had both the correct monetary value and the number of cheques that you gave but they are claiming the cashier made a simple mistake on both fields of the receipt - simply unbelievable.

So to me it is clearly obvious that Lloyds did receive your missing cheque and they have lost it in the system. Dont let them get away with this, also dont let them get away with their claim about the cctv, all banks have high definition cctv on both sides on the counter and the handover of banknotes/cheques would be clearly visible).

Yes it does. If the bank is claiming the extra £10 k on the slip was just an error fair enough.

But if they are also claming that the physical number of cheques/items box is also incorrect then it lays doubt on their claim of a simple keying error and looks more obvious that the cashier did indeed receive the now missing cheque.

Have you ever seen a Lloyds paying in slip?
Pre printed ones have the box you mention but nobody uses it and it serves no purpose.
Hand written ones do not have it at all.
The OP has a 'simple card account' which to me suggests that the card was originally used to pay in the cheques.

    Already confirmed.

Did you deposit the cheques along with a paying in slip?

Or did you present them with your card?
    I used my card
  • I don't understand why the OP keeps phoning Lloyds up where if there's a discrepancy in the amount of a cheque credited, the OP should be speaking to the branch where the cheque was deposited.

How long before the OP says "10 pages for a wind up - a new MSE record!" ?

    so 10k missing?

a car handed over by the op for a cheque?, then not sending the registration document off (sellers responsibility - fines for not doing so)

we have the new buyer as the owner of the car but the op still the legal registered keeper?

bank staff stamp stub for 7 cheques (confirmed at added up by multiple staff - says a lot if one cashier cant be trusted to add up a few cheques etc)

10k don't hit the account - and im expected to believe the bank staff lost a cheque then ganged together to commit fraud by stating this 7th cheque was never there in the first place)

either some serious scamming going on here or utter bl***s
