So further to yesterday's update, I had a batch cooking afternoon of which two things were not desperately successful... My ma recommended making Sarah Brown's Cheese and Lentil Loaf with quark as a low-fat option (slimming world has inspired a love of quark). I am after cheap lean protein sources so this sounded great - Ma assured me it worked really well and she preferred it to the original version (with cheddar or similar + cream). Well I think her tastebuds have gone funny . Not tasty at all IMO! And the recipe makes 6 portions... Oh dear. :rotfl:

lotti I don't really know why but something caught me about this and I've decided to make it myself. I have 5kg of red lentils and being a selective, very selective vegetarian my diet is sorely lacking in protein. Found a recipe on line, which i think is linked to Sarah Brown, but no quark or cream, just milk. It smells really nice, I chucked some harissa seasoning in. Will let you know how it turns out.

Bad day at work today and got some bad news about some friends yesterday. Haven't had chance to update my totals but only two spend days so far, so that makes 3 SFD's.

Back in the 80s my mum cooked everything from Sarah Brown's books, I remember bowls of pulses soaking everywhere!

Hello all, I've been so busy over the weekend with DDs ballet but I managed 4 SFD so far, hurrah!
Kept all my spends within budget bar more petrol thanks to all the toing and froing with ballet rehearsals! Should have budgeted more for this!

Evening everyone. It seems you've all been having yourselves a bit of Bank Holiday fun! Good for you!!

Kat, I read in The Times today that a thank you from your boss is the equivalent if a £1600 pay rise. Maybe if your boss continues to read this thread, he'll offer the extra dosh instead :D

Today was another SFD for me, so that's 4 in total now. My car has been overdue for a clean since....well, for ages really! Due to the set up where I live, I can't wash it myself so I always have to pay to get it done. However, I managed to get it cleaned today for nothing :D Inside and out!! Hurrah, my car's had a spring clean!!

I had a bit of a chocolate craving today. Vegan chocolate is usually a bit more expensive, plus I was having a SFD right? So, I mixed up some chia seeds with almond milk and stirred through some cacao powder and a splodge of peanut butter - yummmmmm! Chocolate craving satisfied and no money spend, hurrah!

I'm about to make a lentil stew for tomorrow's dinner as I'm on the late shift and need to get organised in advance! Plus, with my brand new defrosted freezer, I'll make a big batch of the stuff and that'll be some meals ready for future late shifts!

Oh, I'm on a roll today! Wish i could get my act together with spring cleaning the house - my parents may be visiting next weekend! Yikes, much cleaning to be done in the next few days

    Evening tributes.
    :D

Well.... whoops. Turns out I had booked in a nightshift last night and forgot about it. So spent all day awake going suit shopping before ending up at work for all night.

Thankfully, I survived it and decided that today would be the first day of my attempt at the 5/2 diet.
I am using the "my fitness pal" app thing on the internet to monitor what I am eating and it is going very well. I had 3 bourbon biscuits at work (was about to collapse so needed something sugary) then nothing else today.
Once my soup is all cooked then I am going to have that for supper with a couple of slices of bread and then that is starve day number 1 completed.
    :D

Oh... on a financial note... this is spend-free day number 2!!!!!!!!!

    Evening All,

SFD for me today, was at work so an easy one.

CEW - Sorry to hear about your chick :(

Will be having a look for Sarah Browns books after reading all the posts, I need some inspiration for my cupboards full of pulses!

MagicCat - loved your post, I'll be trying that tactic with my Dad

One of my uncle's has had to give up his beloved allotment (due to his horrible wife, and she is a nasty piece of work) and he dropped round lots of raspberry and blackberry bushes, leeks, onions, beetroot, carrots and mange tout, all ready to go in the ground. So have managed to organise with my auntie to get into her garden tmrw so I can do some frantic weeding and get everything in the ground. Am going to take DD into town in the morning and hit the pound shops, see if I can get some cheap compost and then get all my seeds going. It's a bit late to be starting but due to the situation with my auntie's garden (large guard dog and getting childcare) I can't get in there whenever I want. Am tempted to take half my lawn up and do it in mine!

Anyhoo, dinner in the oven so need to go!
    Totals

Exercise day and spendy (quid here, quid there) to a variety of charities... gave 'em a quid rather than buying tombola tickets.

Today I am grateful for lovely friends who effectively made my day a NSD, and who also make an excellent coffee; for the snooker being on; for my iron; for making a yummy tea when dh said there wasn't much in; for the sunshine and springness.

Tomorrow's my busy day - but always an enjoyable one as I get to go food shopping!
