Getting fitter and trimmer

Hi
I'm setting up this thread as several of us on another thread have decided to challenge ourselves to get fitter and trimmer and I feel we could do with a dedicated place to support each other.
My aim a week ago was to lose 7lbs in 5 weeks and my starting weight was 9st 13lbs. I lost 16lbs in January and February but have since put 2 back on. I haven't been sticking to it very well this week and my scales reckon I have put on 3lbs in 7 days! My scales do have a tendency to be inaccurate so I'll weigh myself tomorrow too and double check.
Anybody is welcome to join. You just need to have a goal and the will to do it!

Hello Fmess. I thought I would shuffle over and keep you company. Thanks for setting up the thread. As you know I have been losing weight, getting fitter and generally pulling myself together since mid January. So far I have lost 27lb and have dropped a dress size (almost 2 now).
I don't have a gym membership although when the weather is bad I toy with the idea but I am desperately trying to get out of debt and that won't help. I have a mountain bike and I am lucky enough to have 16 miles of cycle path nearby, I do my fast cycling on there early in the morning, I plan routes with punishing hills on other days and also combine some off road, mud cycling and that is harder than the hills and works the upper body hard trying to keep control of the bike.
I also jog (can't call it a run) and this is what melts the fat for me, I do 2 miles at the moment and am gradually building it up. When I get back from cycling/jogging I skip in my driveway, I do 500 skips, fast, and this works arms, shoulders and abs aswell as legs.
All in all after the initial outlay of a bike (doesn't need to be a new one), running shoes, a sports bra and skipping rope this is all free, I am adding a few bits of specialised kit in as I go but not much as it won't fit for long and a few bike repair bits. I love that my workout starts from my gate and ends there, no driving to the gym, parking and queuing etc.
My next goal is to lose 8lb by the end of May.
Sorry for rambling.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Hi dolly! Well done on your weight loss that is fantastic! Do you have an overall aim for your weight loss?
I love your workout ideas too. I signed up to a gym membership in January as I was training to a do a 10k and was struggling to train outside in the wet weather. I haven't used the gym as much as I should have although now work is calming down, I should be able to go to more frequently.
As you say, one of the worst parts about the gym is having to drive there, park and then do a workout. Although I do like the classes but haven't got into a routine of doing a regular one, which I need to do (going to book one now, whilst I have good intentions!).
I need to get my bottom in gear and get back on track with the weight loss and exercise programme. Starting again tomorrow on controlling my eating and ensuring that I do as much exercise as possible, in between working!LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Hello Fmess and dolly! I'd like to join too please! Thanks Fmess for setting it up.
I am a home workout bunny. I have dumbells and use the 3k and 5k ones, an 8k kettlebell and my ultimate sandbag that currently weighs 26lbs. I also own a skipping rope, a bike in the garage - oops - and recently acquired a scooter to foster my inner child!
I do a lot of bodyweight workouts but mix them up with weights too. I use a lot of Zuzka Light stuff - free on her website and also youtube where they are ZWOW plus a number up to about 63!
I wish to lose 23lbs ultimately, to reach 8st13, a weight I dimly remember from uni days (I'm now 45!). But I'd rather lose inches. My bust, waist over tummy button and hips at widest point add up to 107 inches, I think. I'd like to get down to 100, mostly from my butt!
For me, it's consistency in my eating habits that has the biggest effect. So I shall keep off the sugar and grains...

Can I join? I don't want to lose weight, but I do need to get fitter. Currently doing Pilates once a week, but feel that all the emphasis is on core strength when actually I'd like to get the rest of me fit too.
Aims - reducing osteoporosis risk through weight bearing exercise, increased suppleness and general overall fitness. Basically I need someone to give me a metaphorical kick up the bum - I know what to do, just need to actually do it.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Can I join in please?
Not sure what I weigh atm, just over 10 and a half stone a couple of weeks ago.
I've got some dumbbells and a cross trainer. I usually do 10 minutes to warm up on the cross trainer then do some body weight exercises and then weighted exercises.
I find it hard finding routines though and not sure which areas to train on each day
I also need to stop smoking, because it's obviously not helping on the cardio side of things
I need to gain some muscle as well as lose some weight, that's the plan anywayEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

Well done for all those that are already into their journey of feeling fitter and trimmer.
I have fallen off the wagon many times in the last couple of years since I started to try to lose weight, improve my fitness and health. I am about 1 1/2 stone less than my top weight but have a lot to lose. I don't have scales now but have measured myself so will be going by inches and clothes size currently a 20.
I am heading overseas on a long trip in November and want to be a size 14 and a lot fitter before I go so I enjoy the experience so much more.
I want to do this by eating clean (primal) and doing body weight and outside exercise as I want to keep the cost down as I need to save a lot for my trip!
Looking forward to seeing your ideas and inspirational ideas0 -
Fmess - my starting weight in January was 16st 7lb, I am now 14st 8lb and my overall aim is to be somewhere in the 10 1/2 st to 11st region. I will see how I feel at 11st and I am hopeful that I will reach that weight by mid December.
I have been for my 2 mile jog this afternoon and also skipped, it was a bit slower than normal as I have a cough and it was harder to get air in my lungs but I'm not particularly ill so that was why I still did it.
The kids go back to school tomorrow so I will get back to my normal routine which is cycling or jogging and skipping plus 40 minutes walking on the school run and 1 hour dog walking. I am lucky as I work part time from home so it is easy to fit everything in.
We had chicken salad for tea and I had yoghurt for pud, everyone else had a cherry bakewell. That is it for me now, I may have a cup of tea later but nothing else to eat till breakfast, I very easily get into a habit of crisps and chocolate in the evening but only allow myself two evenings a week for this now.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Hello all can i join?
Last summer i was 40, a slinky size ten/twelve, did gymnastics twice a week, aerial silks once a week and bikram yoga three of four times a week. As well as 30 to 40 mins of yoga at home every day. I felt energetic fit and lively.
Went abroad and had a wonderful holiday -ate what i wanted and gained a stone which seemed to be the start of a slippery slope... had issues on my return getting back in the swing of my healthy eating.
Then some nasty life drama got in the way, house move, redundancy, unemployment, change in hours and responsibilities. So all my classes went on hold, I was stressed and we had a time saving cheap n nasty diet.
What a difference a year makes. I am now a size 18 (lets be honest i am bordering on a 20) I do no exercise at all. my diet is shocking and i need to get my act together. I have let myself go too (which is the worst bit!) so need to get back to grooming and glaming it up!
Our finances have improved so i can to go back to bikram which i love and gymnastics however after seeing a video of me this weekend (lumbering around an agility course with the dog - i looked like Godzilla) god knows how i am ever going to be able to get back to gymnastics!
But hey ho. you have to start somewhere.
Small goals this week.
Every day do one of my yoga pod casts on my lunch break and drink some water (at least 1 ltr)Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
Hi everyone! :j
Thanks Fmness for bringing us over here! I too let everything slide, in part cost cutting and staying in whilst debt busting, in part due to general gloominess, in part due to ill health - first joint problems stopped me running, then I had a couple of ops to rid me of cancer. Felt bleughhhh for so long it became normal to feel that way! I have a lot of very active friends and don't like not feeling fit enough to enjoy outdoor activities with themand really don't like my clothes fitting so badly, if I can get into them at all . Recent holiday pics were the last straw.:eek:
I am embarrassed to say there is a pool and gym where I work, I just havent bothered to use them regularly over this last year. That will all change from Tuesday :j and I have started making baby steps to get back to running - just 6 min out and backs a couple times last week, and a few swims whilst I was away on a training course somewhere with a pool. 13 stone, dead on. Last weeks activity didn't help much, but then I was in a training environment with 2 courses laid on three times a day, so probably not gaining weight was the reward for making on the whole sensible choices about food and easing myself back into the swing!
I need nagging so my goal is to post daily over this next month, celebrating achievements (exercise) and confessing any snack attacks. Today was a birthday party for my godson. I did manage to stick broadly to salad nibbles and avoid extra chocolatey cake...but I had three jam tarts and a couple slices of cheese!
Best of luck everyone0
