After a few weeks of jogging which tailed off when the kids holidays started I clicked on a link to a free 6 week program to improve your parkrun PB and they have come back asking me to come along tomorrow
It seems to be tied in to a BootCamp thing.
It said beginners or 25 min plus parkrunners. I have only done a couple of PR and a Race for Life about 5 years ago and I was more of a 35 min plus back then. I think it will be tough but I have been saying I need to get out there but always finding a reason not to. Now (if I am accepted on the program) I will have to do it.
well I went - it was hard! Various intervals training and a few sprints and uphills interspersed with burpees, squats and planks. I have never done a plank before. Even the warm up of jog 4 times round a marked course was hard - I wasn't quite the slowest but I was well towards the back. I feel it in various places today so it was certainly challenging enough. As soon as I hit any sort of upward slope my pace drops to the point where I could walk quicker!
I have to do a park run on Saturday to record my starting position for this 6 week challenge. They would like me to go to one bootcamp a week as well so I will try and fit that in.
It has to be good for me - and is free so very MSE.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

@MallyGirl it sounds great to me.
It will certainly speed up your parkrunhave fun.
Most people struggle on any hills, it doesn't take much of an incline to really make it tough.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
So happy this morning. Did a reverse handicap 10k last night. Its the first time since I did the half marathon back in June that i have completed a race pain free.
No foot pain or piriformis painhopefully if I keep the stretching and strengthening exercises going then I may be able to get back to running pain free for good

Good luck :-)
It's always nice receiving a race pack.
Edit: I have a 7 mile race to do on the same day as yourswith racepacks being sent out from the 14th Sept.
Although I am going to use my race as a bit of a training run to try and sort out pacing for the race that I am doing the week after.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Thanks everyone for the advice. Sorry i didnt get back to you, i thought i had already done it. I think i got confused with this thread and my C25k thread!
I went into a running shop and got trainers and bra yesterday, downloaded the C25K app on my iPod and am all ready to start tomorrow0 -
@WantToBeSE good luck with the C25K.
I went for a long walk yesterday and now have a blister on the ball of my footso a painful gentle 3 mile run this morning. It was going to be a long run in the region of 15 miles but the pain after 3 was to much
On the good side I smashed my parkrun PB yesterday. It was a nice way to celebrate being pain free. (Before the blister lol)
Hopefully I can take another 20 secs off it when the weather cools down a bit and go sub 20.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I did my 1st ParkRun in 5 years on Saturday (3rd one ever). It went OK - I decided to follow the pacemaker for 35 mins but she messed up somehow and at 2.5k we were on for 39 mins! It had felt very slow but she said we were supposed to do our slowest kilometer first. We sped up after that and managed 37 mins with no walking so it could have been worse. My PR record says that my 2 previous times (after a C2K program and a race for life) were 33:23 and 34:43 so I am aiming to get back to 33 mins at the end of the 6 week program I am doing.
I was in a hotel on Thursday so tried to do 5k on a treadmill - it was very warm and I had to give in somewhere around 4k having had to stop for water twice. Outside in the drizzle on Saturday was so much nicer.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Good effort with the parkrun.
I must find one of these parkruns that have pacemakers! I've done 4 different ones and never seen any. I do know one of our local running clubs did pacing for one event not so long ago, but I was away that week.
It does seem that some events have regular pacemakers though so I really should find one.
I had my mate pacing me for the first 2 laps on Sat as he wanted to take it easy and it made a difference hence the PB.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Thanks.
My local PR only has pacemakers sometimes but it was the 7th birthday so they had them for:
19 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 26 minutes, 27 minutes, 30 minutes, 31 minutes, 33 minutes, 35 minutes and jog/walk get u round
I chose the slowest but it was even slower than that - but better than the 'get u round' ones coming in at 50 mins. Good on them for getting out there though - it was not a lovely day!
They post when they have pacemakers in the news section on the websiteI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
