After a few weeks of jogging which tailed off when the kids holidays started I clicked on a link to a free 6 week program to improve your parkrun PB and they have come back asking me to come along tomorrow
It seems to be tied in to a BootCamp thing.
It said beginners or 25 min plus parkrunners. I have only done a couple of PR and a Race for Life about 5 years ago and I was more of a 35 min plus back then. I think it will be tough but I have been saying I need to get out there but always finding a reason not to. Now (if I am accepted on the program) I will have to do it.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I think the bra recommendations would need more info on what sort of size you are.
I have found Brooks trainers good but I am a lady with very long skinny feet. I have recently got some ASICS Gel-Kayano as the reviews said they were even more narrow than the Brooks. They seem OK so far but haven't had much of a test.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Got a 10K in 3 weeks time and so I went out for a long run yesterday and did 6.62 miles, my longest run ever, in 1:30:07.
On Friday I signed up for my first half marathon - Liverpool on 2nd April next year. After yesterday's run I think I might actually be able to do it!0 -
@mrsp1987 if you can do the 10k then you can do a half marathon. You have plenty of time to build up the distance slowly.
@MallyGirl I am sure that if its a bootcamp type thing you will be fine.
I quite like the fact that there is something specific to improve your parkrun PB.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I know theoretically I can do it. It's just mentally believing I can do it. In the last week my running has improved massively just by me slowing my pace. I'm by no means fast but by slowing to about 12:00 min miles I'm able to go further for longer so after 6.6 there was still something left in the tank.
Training starts on 18th December and I'm really looking forward to it actually!0 -

I started a new thread about doing the Couch to 5K, but had no replies, so do you mind if i join in here instead?
I have never been a runner, and am quite unfit to be honest, but once the kids are back at school next week i will be starting the C25K plan.
But my main problem at the moment is that i dont know what trainers and sports bra to buy, especially because I'm on a budget.

I use a sports bra from Decathlon at the mo - one of their own brand ones. I'm a DD and it's pretty good! Although I need to get a few more of them so I don't have to be so on it with getting it washed before my next run :rotfl:
As for trainers I went to a running shop and they recommended some for my gait. I then went on a search to find them cheaper, but my other half bought them for me as a present! Not very MoneySaving, but they are nice and comfy. They're Asics. I could've got them for £30 in the sales, if the OH hadn't bought them for me.
Good luck C25King! :TMortgage - £[STRIKE]68,000 may 2014[/STRIKE] 45,680.0 -
I have the shock absorber running specific bra. I had to resew the clips but great for the larger woman! You might have to order the larger cup sizes. If you are smaller then there are other options..
DH bought me the garmin vicoactive in duty free on sunday as encouragement. ...he's very fit . I'm feeling very unwell after dashing around airports so might get to run tomorrow.
I appear to not be going any further than 5km so mifht try faster.
And if you are out there moving you're a runner!.

@indesisiv is very tired today. Looking forward to a nice very gentle 5k tonight when I finish work. Attempt to try and work some of the tiredness out of the legs from last nights speed training. 12 reps of quarter mile flat out with a jogged 1 min recovery I was absolutely exhausted.
On the road I run in Saucony, trails inov8 and proper mud salamon.
Never could get on with Nike or asics, but I am going to try something else next time for the road and probably ditch my salamon's after this winters cross country.
@WantToBeSE Try Sports Shoes website for trainers as they generally have some good deals on shoes if you know what you are looking for.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
So the vivoactive thing picked up a nice strong signal....and I can clearly see what a slow lumberer I am. Much slower than in the spring before I injured myself. So do I go faster or further to start with? It's much cooler here now so it's not so difficult but I have a maximum 8 weeks before snow stops outdoor running for me. Then it's the dreadmill:(
Currently 5km twice a week with a mile fitted in if possble as well.
Opinions?0 -
@TiredTrophy I wouldn't overly worry about speed as that can be worked on later. Just keep running again and the speed will come back anyway.
For me I would be just thinking about enjoying the outdoors before you can't do it.
Reverse 10k handicap race for me tonight, I really wanted to use it as a tempo run but its hard not to try and chase people down .... hmmmm“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0
