  • Just did a few loops of the local park. Did 5.5K in about 26 mins. Took it relatively slowly as i'm just winding down now until the 1/2M on Sunday. May go out again this Friday and do a similar thing again or just do this Saturday's Park run (its held in the same park)

    Felt pretty good though...

I would avoid sat unless you are going to take it really really easy personally. I would do the Friday just to keep legs moving though.

However that is because I can't be trusted to go and run parkrun gently.

    Good luck on Sunday.

Thought I ran quite well yesterday. ..a route I do frequently....and ran all the hills, there were 3:)..but the old iphone I record strava on failed again to get a signal.
I looked at the fenix 3. ..too big....my wrists are tiny and I really cannot justify the cost of it ends up too uncomfortable to use . My children think I need a garmin gps for the mountain hiking and a simple activity wearable for my running and cycling as "you're not training for the Olympics, Mummy!". This would cost the same as getting the fenix I think. But maybe there are other solutions? I use a tablet as my only tech. The old iphone has no sim and is only used as a mobile gps. Perhaps a cheaper small phone would be enough, maybe with a Moov? Together with the handheld gps thing. Should I post on the techie thread?

No running today as horrible headache...weekend is hiking in Italy...on the Swiss border. Which reminds me, I must go and check the maps.
    Enjoy the weekend.

I could never get on with strava on my phone as it kept dropping the GPS which is why I ended up with a garmin.
You can pick up old watches off ebay for about £30 that would do what you want to do probably.
The fenix is probably overkill for what you want to use it for (it is a nice but expensive bit of kit)
I use mine for full navigation, swimming, running and the looong battery life. And the fact it bluetooths directly to my phone (or connects via wifi) so that i can sync activities whilst I am away without my laptop.

Well done on the running up hills :)
Hope the headache goes away and enjoy the hiking in Italy, I am also hiking this weekend (as well as running) but in the Lake District.

    Hi TT,

FWIW I use a Garmin forerunner 110. It has everything i need being a 'plodder' it gives distance and pace and has GPS. Its now discontinued by Garmin but if you want one you can pick up a few bargains.
It too has a long battery life...as has been said if you look on ebay i'm sure there are a few bargains.

    Cheers

Hike was 17km, 1900m of climb and 33 degrees of heat! Amazing views, butterflies, flowers......
  • Did the Severn Bridge H/M yesterday. My first 1/2 M. I finished in 2hrs 21. The atmosphere there was fantastic, stalls, DJ and very well organised. Had a nice t shirt and medal too for finishing.
The marshals and crowd generally were very encouraging...really enjoyed it

However, I found the route the most difficult run I have ever done. Cracking views over the bridge and around the lanes either side of the bridge but soooo hilly. There was one hill in the lanes at mile 11 which was really tough.

Has whetted my appetite for more though as I'm doing the Bristol 1/2 at the end of September and hope to beat 2hrs 21...We'll see......

    Congratulations!
  • Thanks for that TT.

Rested up until tonight then just did a local 8K loop in 43 mins. Its pretty undulating where I live here in South Wales.

Looking forward to the next 1/2M on 25th September. Doing the Bristol 1/2 then
