    YAY!!!!

I'm so pleased it went well - the worst bit really is over now! :j

I've got mine 11.30 on Tuesday... getting a bit worried about it now, I've got no assets and certainly not enough surplus (or indeed any surplus) for an IPA but I am dreading explaining about the debt... not that any of it was fraudently aquired or I'm a bingo addict! or anything like that at all... I just truly cant believe when those figures are on paper we, well mainly I, have spent that!! So lord knows how its going to go!

Hope you have a good drink tonight!!!

I received a letter this morning from the Halifax, which was where my bank account was held before I went bankrupt. It basically said I was £145 over my agreed overdraft (through their bank charges), and I needed to call them straight away to discuss payment.

The situation was that I had a £1000 overdraft with them. My salary used to be paid into the account every month which would just about take me back into the black, but of course I was soon back in the red. The day before my bankruptcy I was £700 into my overdraft. I obviously needed some money to live on for the rest of the month so I withdrew the remaining £300.

So I rang the Halifax and explained the situation. The woman asked for my bankruptcy number and date of bankruptcy, which I gave her. She then said, "so you went bankrupt on 06 July but withdrew £300 on 05 July"? I said yes that is correct. She proceeded to start lecturing me, saying that I shouldn't have withdrew the money! She went from nice to evil when she realised what I had done. I told her in no uncertain terms that I did not need a lecture from her first thing on a Saturday morning or any other time to be honest. She was so rude to me, I'm thinking of writing a letter of complaint. She then said that I needed to take my bankruptcy paperwork to my local branch. I said I didn't, they are already aware that I have been made bankrupt (they sent me a letter saying as much around a week ago), and that she needed to get her facts right. She promptly hung up on me.

I wonder how many people will think that what I did (withdrawing the money) was wrong?? I certainly don't think it was. they gave me an overdraft for £1000. If they had given me a loan for £1000 they wouldn't have expected £300 of it to still be there 10 months later would they??

None who's opinion I would care for.

You have to live, and £300 is a drop in the ocean to the bank but not to you.
Fortunately the OR regards withdrawing wages to pay living expenses as perfectly fair, so grumpy bank staff can go do 'something very rude' to themselves. :p

    Hi BLTN,

You will be I'm sure. This may be a strange thing to say, but since I've been declared BR I've stopped caring so much about what others think or offending people so much. Don't get me wrong, I would never go out of my way to be horrible to someone or anything like that, I don't know how to explain it really. Before BR if they had sent that letter I would have rung up and meekly said how sorry I was and then paid (somehow) what I owe whilst continually apologising. It's not even just BR stuff tho, the other day a friend made a slighty sarky comment to me about my OH (nothing to do with bankruptcy) and I told her where to go. Normally I would have silently fumed but not said anything for fear of having a confrontation, but I said to her, what the hell is that meant to mean?? And you know what, she didn't know where to put herself. I think it's not about being aggressive, more about standing up for yourself and not allowing people to walk all over you (as I used to).

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sure it's to do with the bankruptcy thing but I'm not sure how to explain it TBH.

Just want to say 'Good Girl! AND 'Well Done!'
And yes, you SHOULD write a letter of complaint re: the woman's manner and talk.
It may save someone else less strong from being pulped by her.
    Please do.
