Hi mej24
No I didn't owe the IR anything, apparently it's just standard procedure I think. It does seem a hassle though and I don't understand why they don't just take it directly from your salary as the taxman does, and I'm not even sure if I'm honest why it's taken! My friend went BR in February and he did not have an NT code, but the letter I had from the IR said that it can only be taken until the end of the tax year, so maybe thats why he didn't get one, not worth the hassle to them for a couple of months tax.
As soon as I hear anymore I will post here again!Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
There is some info about the NT tax code here mej24Applying a 'Nil tax' code
If you pay tax under PAYE, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will usually apply a 'nil tax' code to you for the rest of the tax year in which you were declared bankrupt. This means that soon after your bankruptcy, your employer will be told NOT to take any more income tax from your wages for the rest of the tax year. HMRC applies nil tax codes for various reasons, and the new tax code will not tell your employer you are bankrupt. The nil tax code does not mean no tax is due. It just enables HMRC to claim the whole of your unpaid tax for the year of your bankruptcy.
There will be extra money in your pay because of the nil tax code. This money will form the basis of an IPA or IPO, even if you have no other real disposable income. A nil tax (or NT) IPA or IPO may be the only amount you have to pay, and the agreement or order will stop when your tax code changes. If you have other real disposable income, the IPA or IPO will reduce when your tax code changes.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

As soon as I hear anymore I will post here again! The tax year ends on March 31, so it wouldn't have been worth them trying to set him up for a NT code. Had he gone BR any date after 1 April, it would probably have been a different story. I was advised that, if I wanted to ensure my employer wasn't contacted to put me on a NT code, my best bet was to go BR in February or March, as it can only be applied in the tax year in which you go BR. That's why I went BR on 29 March.

Hi Claire!
Just thought I would say hi! Hows it going!?
We had one of those notices about the property we are in, one got sent to our landlord too who rang up to ask what it was all about  ! That was a bit cringey, but thankfully she was Ok with it in a "as long as I get my rent" kinda way!
H has also had this NT tax code agreement thru, however he pays car tax and car tax arrears in with this tax (1 of the factors that pushed us to BR) - and the OR or IR have no idea what will happen to these payments while he is an NT code so life could be interesting come next April if that dosent get sorted out!
Anyways, just wanted to say Hi! Hope your well, take care!!0 -

Ho ho ho (no it's not christmas yet, thats the sound of me laughing at the STUPIDITY of Halifax bank)
Got home today to find some new mail. Last week I had yet another snotty letter from Halifax telling me that my conduct was "unacceptable" and that I should not attempt to use my bank account, this is despite me calling them to tell them about my BR and also receiving a letter prior to this from them saying they had been made aware of my bankruptcy and that the account would be frozen. Today I have had a letter from Halifax ENCLOSING MY NEW DEBIT CARD!!!! I mean, are they thick?? IM BANKRUPT YOU EEJITS!!!!!
I had a letter as well today from the credit card company telling me to contact them otherwise my account would be sent to a debt management company. Again I have contacted this company and told them about my BR. I can see part of this weekend being taken up writing a few stern letters!
I had my interview and it went quite well but I won't find out for at least another week if I have the job or not!! I was sooooooooooo nervous, I was sitting in the reception waiting to be called in thinking, the last time I felt this nervous was when I was sitting in the court waiting room ha.
Oh the other bit of mail I had today was from Provident, offering me up to £500 on their fantastic rate of "just" 177%APR. Quite reasonable, no??
And the other problem I've uncovered today is that my per insurance seems to have been coming out of the wrong bank! It didnt come out last month and hasnt come out this month from my Co-Op account, I'm worried they have somehow taken it from Halifax (the old bank details). I've just rung them to find out where they have been taking it from but they were closed so need to call them in the morning.
And thats all for today!!

I do wonder and even if they would have me I sooooo wouldnt bank with them after they cant even keep track of who they have kicked out!!!
Take care!! xxxx0 -

Well I'm off work this week and have had a fabulous week of lounging around doing not a lot. Went shopping this morning and got some FAB bargains, 2 vests from M&S were the best buy at 25p each! Followed closely by 2 smock style tops from Primark in blue and green reduced to a pound each. Ahh the joys of being a bankrupt, I love a good sale! I also treated myself in Boots to some new make up but had a £10 voucher left over from my birthday so no need to spend there. OH's mom bought lunch and a drink so all in all I've spent a LOT less than £20 and have lots of fab new clothes, make up and a new bed set (Primark £13!).
Had to have another row with Halifax yesterday. They sent yet another letter telling me not to use my account and pay £168 something immediately. I rang the telephone number and sat listening to their horrendous hold music for half an hour before deciding I'd had enough of the bimbo voice continually saying "your call is very important to us" "Thank you for holding" and "One of our agents will be with you shortly" NO THEY WON'T STOP LYING!!! So I hung up and rang another number from an earluer letter to be told that I would only be able to speak to someone on the first number!! I told them that I wasn't prepared to waste my money as I had been on hold for 30 minutes (it wasn't even a local rate number, 0113 dialling code anyone?) to be told by Mr Bored at the other end of the phone "sorry I can't help you" GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR HALIFAX MAKE ME MAD!!!
I'm wondering now whether to even try and contact them again via letter or phone or just email the OR and ask them to deal with? I emailed about 5 days back notifying them of my (small!) pay increase and asked them to confirm receipt, so far they haven't done so and I'm wondering if a letter might be a better way of getting in touch?? I don't think any of my creditors have been informed yet as I am still getting texts from Lloyds TSB once weekly to inform me of my balance, and statementsfrom my credit card company. The only creditor who hasn't bugged me in any way shape or form is Tesco, who, ironically, I owed the most to, strange isn't it???Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -

Well I can't believe how much time has passed since my last post, the weeks are certainly going fast and it'll soon be c*******s (had to blank out the C word as swearing isn't allowed):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Not much to report at the moment. I didn't get the job that I went for but my manager (who is currently on a secondment and was one of the interviewers!) told me I had done exceptionally well and that the only thing that had let me down was my lack of project management experience. Never mind, I have my appraisal a week on Friday so at least I can bring it up with my manager and see what she can suggest. In the meantime I have started the ECDL and have to get it finished by December as I work for the NHS and they will only fund it until then. If I haven't finished by then I have to pay to do it at college, when I checked it was around £280  so if that isn't motivation to get it done I dont know what will be. Most of the jobs I apply for state in the person spec that this is needed so it will be beneficial to me in the long run.
The only other thing that has happened in the past few days is I was paid yesterday and it seems the NT code has been applied. I have to wait for my payslip (should get this tomorrow) and have a proper look. I also have had a letter from the people who will be collecting the money, asking for a copy of my next payslip to assess my NI position????? Not sure what this is all about but I'm sure I soon will. I'm hoping that if I have had the NT code applied and I ring them they will take the money straight away (poss by debit card payment???). I don't like having to remember that I need to leave money in my account for certain things, mainly because I never do, and is part of the reason I ended up in this mess in the first place.
It's almost 3 months now since BR. I can't believe it's gone so quickly.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
Aw Claire, sorry about the job, but its all good experience just going for the interview, so better luck next time.
The ECDL is a piece of pee so you shouldn't have to many problems, but good luck with it. If nothing else it keeps you mind occupied. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -

I just typed a massive post then erased the whole flipping thing by mistake :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
It's to late and I'm to tired to type the whole thing again, the general gist of it was, I'm happy and pleased with myself at the moment because 1) I've managed to make it from one payday to the next and have money left over for once, 2) I managed to pay back what I owed to my dad (he lent me the majority of the money I needed to make myself BR) and 3) Halifax have stopped bothering me by the looks of it, I found out after ringing them again that there is a specific telephone number to tell them about your bankruptcy and I have not heard from them in 7 days now, which is a record!! And also I sat my first ECDL test yesterday and passed at 94% so I was V pleased with that, so all is looking good right now.
Also good is that my NT tax code has been applied and I've sorted out the payments with no hassle. I had a letter about a month back from the OR telling me that the payments would be dealt with by a company called Willmott Clarke, then I had a letter from Willmott Clarke requesting a copy of my payslip, so I had the phone number from that letter. They took the first payment over the phone by debit card and are sending me a standing order form for the rest of the payments, so no problems there.
All in all I'm feeling very happy and positive at the moment, apart from I have a stinking head cold hence the reason I'm sitting at the computer instead of out on a Saturday night!!Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0
