Brother wants us to babysit niece but dictates where we can take her

And you know that because? Anyway, I don't find this argument to be relevant. According to OP, the grand mother wasn't impressed and as a result, will probably be much less flexible in the future so might be back to seeing her older grand children more often anyway.
I think it's very relevant.
If OP had wanted her children to see granny so badly she would have arranged something that everyone could do together.
Both OP & her brother have put their mum in a very awkward situation.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

Op this is a very interesting topic so thank you for posting.
I only hope that this does not sour the relationship between the daughter-in law and mother-in-law in such a way that the relationship with the grandchild is compromised in any way.
My relationship with my grandchildren is very close and one I cherish dearly.0 -
OP - you realise you would have got a completely different response had you posted on the Discussion Time board?
I hope you had a great day on the beach, and a fab time with your mum.
I don't think you sound selfish at all, and I don't think your brother does either-I just think you're all used to you being the only one with kids and you, your brother and your mum are all now having to get used to the changing dynamics of having another family with kids in the mix.
And, I truly hope you don't give a care what I think, as this is an internet forum and what you and your family think of each other is far far more important than a bunch of strangers implying your brother has issues with you, or your mum needs a backbone, or some of the other things implied which people have posted.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
