"They should make the train station free?. Then it would be filled up with "Free parkers" all day, plus all the untaxed/uninsured cars- people often use this to avoid parking in the road & getting caught. So only the lucky few could get in anyway.

I agree. Yes, something needs to be done as it's pretty extortionate, but maybe something like a cut-price parking permit when bought with a season train ticket?

Councils cannot fine you or is this illegal when you are parked in such areas. This has been decriminalised in most of the UK now. What they can do is issue penalties only. Are these fair? Well when a large proportion of appeals are upheld then you decide.

For me I think that the councils are using this as a cash cow, they incentivise the CEOs to issue more tickets and give a bonus for doing so. It's been shown time and again that this happens despite the denials.

And most of the time the reason why people get caught out is because of lack of investment in parking facilities, and the high cost of parking. People get desperate and make decisions that hindsight they probably wished they haven't.

I feel sorry for the villagers in the programme though, they are blighted by commuters because the TOC has rented out their land to a PPC who charges £4 a day to park, that's almost a grand a year added to the costs of commuting. The blatant profiteering makes these people's life hell.

That is the idea of free parking, being filled with cars by commuters who go to work and come back and go home. Your scenario of untaxed cars is utter rubbish as most supermarkets are free to park, do you see their car parks full of untaxed cars?

Because supermarkets usually keep an eye on cars (they usually have 2 hr limits) & any dumped/untaxed cars are removed.

You really don't understand the issue, did you know that clamping and towing on private land without lawful authority is now illegal? They have to get that authority first!

And if people as you claim are dumping their cars at places without tax and insurance, I don't think a threat of a fake ticket after 2 hours or the charge for all day parking is going to worry them!

Sorry your claims do not hold any water, as most people using car parks are fully taxed, insured and have a MOT if needed. They risk being pulled over by the law on the public highway if not.

So how does a company that has only existed a month have contracts with councils?

Interesting to see the bailiffs supported by the police, pulling people into a bus stop for failing to pay parking fines!!
Yes, and who paid for the Police?

Meanwhile, proper criminals carry on regardless.

And Whyte & Co don't appear to exist as a legal entity, so who are they then? They do have a number of certified bailiffs under their name.
