Shall I take this to mean that you think a size 14 is 'that little bit overweight'? Why am I not surprised! :rotfl:.
I am 5' 5.5" and I briefly went up to a size 14 (on my bottom half at least). I weighed 10st 8lb which I think put me into the "overweight" category on the BMI charts.

I'm now back to a little bit less than 9st and I'm a size 10 again, which I think is a good weight for me.

Yes, my mother and sister are like that. My wife on the other hand has a slowish metabolism and feels the cold, although heat, even extreme 40°C heat doesn't phase her.

I used to be like that. ;). ( I was brought up in much hotter climes some of my childhood) :(.

Ironically, I also have developed rosacea ( I think when one or two major things go wrong the whole body starts going a bit wrong):o so I'm not even mean to just bask out in the sun an acclimatise. I did last summer with no problems though.

I have absolutely no idea what I weigh and I intend to keep it that way! :D

(Although I've just checked and 10st 8lb is still in the healthy category for that height, you'd need to be 10st 11lb to be just into the 'overweight' category.)

Then how can you comment on whether a size 14 is overweight or not?

I'm willing to bet that on the majority of people it isn't, it wasn't on you for example. Obviously 'size 14' isn't a very scientific or accurate measurement!

I wasn't going to post but it infuriates me when people spout ballhooks about it being due to laziness and greediness.

I have struggled with my weight for the past 7 years. Before that was happily a size 12/14.

I have PCOS, IBS, CFS AND FIBROMYALGIA

So, the first condition is KNOWN AND PROVEN to cause easy weight gain and difficult weight loss. The second condition means if I eat 'healthy stuff' like fruit and veg, I end up crippled with pain in my tum. Yet, if I eat white rice or toasted bun, my tum is fine.

The third and fourth conditions mean I sometimes struggle to get out of bed and get through the day, let alone have the energy to exercise.

Because of the above, I have been known to eat 'nice' (junk) food. For something to do/look forward to.

Now, I have 'specific' physical conditions that means I could be 'excused' for being overweight or greedy or lazy. But A LOT of people have mental health issues like depression, stress, anxiety, low self esteem, zero confidence and whether some people like it or not, all of these can have the same restrictions on people as actual physical illnesses.

Im sure there are people who are overweight and are lazy and greedy, but for people to dismiss the majority of overweight people as being so is very short sighted in my opinion.

I agree. Of course there will be some people who are that way but a lot of people struggle and just don't know how to get started or have the confidence to.

My example of the white rice - this is probably one of the worst things I could eat in relation to weight and PCOS, yet in relation to my ibs, causes no issues (unless I eat too much lol)!

There certainly are many people like this - people who know that they have massive portions, lots of the wrong food and lots of alcohol. These people can lose a lot of weight easily if they put their mind to it because it does only take some self-control and a few changes in their diet.

There are also many who genuinely don't realise just how many calories they are eating every day. These people would benefit from using sites like FitDay to log everything they eat. Once they realise how much they are eating, they can usually cut down and lose weight without much effort.

Then there are the people who have all sorts of problems - physical and psychological - which cause problems with their weight. Until these people sort out the issues behind their over-eating, they will usually fail whatever kind of diet they try.

Telling these people that they just need a bit of will-power is pointless and insulting. If it was that easy, they wouldn't be overweight in the first place.
