Weird day at work today, very quiet, so it really dragged.

We had some rain overnight, but today is lovely and sunny.

My aim today is to get all the washing done, in case we are battered by big Bertha tomorrow.

We popped out to get some spuds this morning and I noticed that Clinton cards had 25% off Yankee Candles, so I bought one of the large candles for £14.99.

A lighted scented candle is high on the list of simple pleasures, so I thought I'd buy one. They last for ages, too.

We had the gas and electric bills in today. For some reason they have not used our readings, but have done their own, which is slightly higher. We are going to pay their estimate, as it might make one of the winter bills look lower. Based on our estimates, energy consumption has been similar to the last two years, so not too bad

I've got free a free listing weekend on eBay. I've got a couple of new things to list, plus some re-listing, so I'll get that done. I've got two things ending tomorrow and three on Monday. So far only two will sell, but there is time for improvement.

We had our first tomatoes of the year at lunch time. We are growing cherry tomatoes, and I was able to quarter 4 or 5 to go on the pizza.

Over the next few weeks, it's going to be tomatoes with everything

We haven't been too badly battered by Bertha. A rainy morning, with some thunder and lightening, and a sunny breezy afternoon, with the odd sharp shower.

I've had a couple of eBay items that finished today, a batch of postcards and a dinner jacket that Mr Goldie has grown out of. The jacket sold for just over £40, which I'm very pleased with. I'll put the money by, to buy clothes when the time is right.

I've got 3 jigsaw auctions finishing tomorrow evening. My Sunday auctions hadn't been getting quite as much as I'd have liked, and I wondered whether all the jigsaw puzzlers were out and about with their grandchildren on summer Sundays. So I thought I'd try a Monday evening end time to see if there was any difference

Apart from that, a NSD, and just generally chilling out:cool:

Hi Goldiegirl, have enjoyed reading your diary and hope that retirement doesn't seem too far away now!

I think your diary is very well placed on this forum and wanted to take a look after noticing your thanks on my own.

  • Hello,

We are also expecting a tomato glut, so planning to make lots of passata for freezing!

    Have a good evening,

Hi, Cath, thanks for dropping by

Squirrel, that's a good idea for excess tomatoes. We have grown small cherry tomatoes, so I'm not sure they'd be suitable for passata. Something for me to investigate though, and maybe next year I could grow different types of tomato.

It's turned out to be another sunny Monday morning, we are having a fantastic summer.

I'll pop out in a moment to post the two eBay parcels that I have, and then I'll get on with the housework.

I have a few bits and bobs to do over the next couple of days.

In the interests of maximising the benefits from any spending, I'm going to join the Coop, and the S/drug loyalty scheme. I don't often shop at these stores, but I felt it'd be useful to get some sort of additional value.

The money from the book I sold last week in Greenmetropolis should be cleared, so withdraw the funds to transfer to my bank account.

I'm now going to sell the remainder of my postcards in one bulk lot. These are all the boring ones like mountains and the inside of churches...hopefully someone would like them. So will count them, photograph and prepare listing for the weekend.

Inspired by Apple Muncher see how much I could raise on some books at webuyanybooks.

That's all I can think of for now

  • Gg, if you like Yankee Candles then QVC have a good offer just for today, it's their Today's Special Value, £40 for 3 large jars inc P&P [STRIKE]N.B. I do *not* shop via a television shopping channel, honest[/STRIKE] ;)

Ohhh, that's a good deal, thanks for the heads up, RT

I'm just having a ponder at the moment.

On the one hand I feel I'm being slightly profligate in august, but on the other hand, there's the ethos of snapping up deals when I see them.

    Off to have a think

On a different subject, I sent away for some free seeds for herbs which arrived today, so they'll be useful in due course

Well, the ethos of buying when I see the deal won out, so I made the order!

    :T
Including postage, it works out at £13.33 per candle, so that is pretty good

I've been meaning to look at QVC more often, as they do the yoghurt sachets that we use. Now that I'm all signed up, if they do any yoghurt deals that I like the look of, it'll be no trouble to buy.

    Thanks RT

M&S have sent us a 20% off voucher for use between 14th - 18th August. We're going to Bluewater on 13th, so it's probably just as well the voucher won't be valid then, as we don't actually need anything.

I tried We Buy Books this afternoon. The books that I wanted to sell were ones my friend had given me to sell on her behalf, but I'd had no joy on eBay. We Buy Books only wanted two of them, a grand total of £1.15! That's less than the £5 minimum, so it's back to the original plan of the charity bag.

But it was worth a try

  • That'd be EasiYo Gg? See I told you, I know nothing about QVC *at all* [STRIKE]and have definitely not just taken delivery of two of the last Liz Earle TSVs[/STRIKE] :rotfl:

Glad you got a bargain. Joking aside the TSVs in particular can be fab value & IMHO it's better financially to buy when a good deal comes along than leaving it till you need something and paying full price :money:. If you like candles you might try St Eval, they're gorgeous :)
