I knew we could count on you to be calming, non-judgemental and the voice of reason!
I voted remain as I know how it is going to affect us at work in the short-mid term (and I am right so far). I respect what other people have voted especially if they have bothered to examine the facts - it's a personal decision after all. But we all need to rise above the definition of 'leave' or 'remain' and work together.
Your point about the government needing to show a clear path as to what's going to happen really must happen soon - but I am doubtful it will - I see instability in the markets for a while due to this.
But I don't want to harp on about it. What will be will be and I am sure that we on the MFW forum will support each other whatever might happen (maybe the government should take a leaf out of our book!).
Extra payments on the mortgage will really be my top priority next year to put us in a better position no matter what the economy does in the next few years.
We had stir fry for dinner last night! How did yours go?

Thank you, that is very kind - although there's one area of the board where I'm probably regarded as the opposite!
I think I got myself involved in some feather ruffling again, even though I had resolved not to comment again.
I know KC frequents the board I was on - KC, if you ever see me making even a slightly controversial comment, please feel free to give me a virtual bash over the head with a baseball bat.
I always like to understand people's views, especially when I'm in a minority group. I end up asking questions the the majority group find really difficult to answer, or I throw in something slightly left field for the group to discuss, but, again, it's stuff that they find difficult.
I used to be like this at work - it got to the point where, if any big wigs were visiting from Head Office, it was always ensured they'd go no where near me!
I thought I'd learnt to shut up - for the last 10 years of my working life I used to bite my tongue for a quiet life.
But in the last week, I can't help myself !:T:T:T
I absolutely agree with this.Blaming one side (or the other) whilst choosing not to work towards a viable solution is petty and doesn't help anyone. Funnily enough, I almost voted to remain because I wasn't sure I could trust our government to handle a vote to leave in a pragmatic fashion. Sad really when the people running our country cannot be trusted and would rather be arguing amongst themselves.
Hopefully there's some stirrings of leadership in Westminster. I thought Theresa May came across very well and we haven't got to worry about Boris being PM!
In better news
MCI - my stir fry was lovely. It was very simple, chicken, some veg from a stir fry pack, some noodles, a little chicken stock and a little soy sauce. Now I've made a start, I'll be trying all sorts of other variants
Yesterday, we went on a coach trip to London, to see Kinky Boots. Fantastic show, and very much recommended
Internet has been stable since Monday - hopefully this will continue
2p found on the pavement during our walk today :T
Edited to add
The £500 I invested in a S&S ISA is now worth £506.84. Feeling like a true investor, buying when the market was low. Must remember not to get over confident!Early retired - 18th December 2014

You investor, you  :kisses3:

:kisses3: I saw! To me there was one word, that's all, that could be described as feather ruffling, 99.99% of your post was completely fine. I do that when I'm trying too hard to be reasonable and  and then it all goes pear-shaped  :silenced: But reading *before* your post, I kept thinking again, like I said, English Civil War, this is how it began ...
That sounds good, the whole thing :j Kinky Boots is really famous now!

:rotfl: There's no way you could ruffle my feathers, you are far too nice for that, and it takes more than an honest comment to get me ruffled!
I read back my post, and I saw something towards the end that jarred, so I think you are absolutely right. I'm not planning on getting into deep discussions anymore, but if I ever do, I think I'll type my post on word, and come back an hour later to see if I still want to post it.
It'd also avoid typos. I wanted to say we are on an uncertain road. What I actually said was ' we are on an uncertain toad!
On a different subject, there was a knock on my door the other night. It was the Virgin Media local rep. I usually send casual callers away, but I have taken this guy's business card. Our internet trouble has remained us we are paying too much for slow internet. I've always thought if it works, don't mess around with it. But, we are now seriously thinking about making changes.
Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts about Virgin Internet and Tv, especially about reliability and their customer service.
Also, what is Netflix content like - how recent are the films.
I'm now going to read my book. With all the excitement this last week, I've barely done any reading at all.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I'm with Virgin - mainly good. No real trouble at all. (Though my SIL would disagree!)

I moved from taktalk after many years to virgin due to a worsening service and the customer service was brilliant, the only real issue was having to wait a while to get it installed and then one of the connections was loose so it took a while to fix due to demand. Once sorted we have been fine since and have only needed to reboot once, something which had become a regular daily occurrence previously.
Can't advise on the tv as we only use it for internet so it may be very different if you use it that way.0 -
Phew, thats a relief
Virgin - I'd be very careful about using the email address they give you for anything other than communication with them, or stuff you don't mind losing. I was with them for maybe 20 years, started with dial up. I transferred to broadband with them, no problem. When cable came into my area, in my previous town, I went for it - but they didn't tell me that I'd lose my existing email address (which I'd printed on my business leaflets!). They closed it down, and I lost all sorts of client emails. They switched my email address again when I came here, and closed the previous one - but I hadn't used that, so it was okay. If I had, I'd have been in the same trouble.
Then they kicked me out and transferred me to TalkTalk, they didn't want me because I didn't have cable (it only came to this town about 8 months ago). It was bizarre!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm with VM too and have had no issues. I have tv and internet (no phone as don't need a landline with cable) and both have always been great. In the last few months, both of my services have been upgraded (at no extra cost) and are now better than ever.
I don't use N*tflix all the time but dip in for a month every now and again. If you only want up to date films, it's not the greatest. However, they have great box sets and tv series - and would recommend them for those.0 -
Goldie: I hope May gets the job, to be honest.
Mind, I've said for a while I'd like her to be Cameron's successor.
Re. internet: we're with Sky and not had any real issues. Don't have TV, so can't help with that side. Don't you have to be in a place that receives cable for Virgin Media?2018 totals:

Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -

How inconvenient to lose your email address. In this day and age when we are signed up for so many online things, it'd take an age to amend everything. If it's linked to your business as well - that is very bad news.
We were originally with AOL, then we were taken over by Talk Talk. We've continued with our AOL email address, and we'd definitely keep on using our current emailEarly retired - 18th December 2014

That's very encouraging that you are both happy with VM.
I've been looking at reviews online, and know that people generally only review when they are unhappy. But there are positive comments too, and VM doesn't have that universal negative vibe that Talk Talk gets.
I'm sold on Netflix already, when I realised 'Better Call Saul' is on there. After watching 'Breaking Bad' last year, I've been keen to watch 'Saul'
Will continue to ponder over the weekend, but VM is looking good
Other news - the 1st of the month money shuffle is done, and I've done the July meal plan.Early retired - 18th December 2014
