We used to holiday in Broadstairs!
Might be going back there next year as a friend of mine is in a Blues Band and he wants to go to the festival down there - could be fun...My friend used to come on family holidays with us, so it will be a trip down memory late for him too (though I have been back twice since then).
Stocking up is always good. Can't wait to get my new kitchen so I can fill the cupboards and get organised and re-stocked.

Hello everyone, I've not logged into MSE for a few days as I've needed a bit of time away. There have been a few things in other areas of the forum which, as KC would say, have taken up too much of my head space, so just stepped away for a while.
It made me realise how much time I have spent on MSE, so, if I don't log on for a while, don't worry, I'm just taking more time out!
Anyway, in financial news, I've opened a Tesco Internet Saver account. The interest rate (for the first year) is 1.22%, which is not bad at all for an instant access account.
I can't be doing with opening any more current accounts, so this Tesco account will be used for 2 reasons. Firstly, for a DD, which I'll need on my M&S current account in November, to open a new monthly saver. Secondly, it'll be used as a holding account for when other savings mature, until I work out what to do with the money next
Proper summer seems to have arrived. We went to the Riverside country park earlier and it was beautiful. I've been sitting in the garden, but it's way too hot now, so have retreated inside.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I would never have had the time to do all the financial hi-jinks when I was working full time.
The next thing to happen will be our TSB monthly savers, which finish around 9th August. The new rate for TSB monthly savers is now 2%, down from 5% so we won't bother with another one.
I'm almost certain we'll both open a SIPP, and put £2880 in, which will then be topped up by tax relief to £3600. I'm intending to do that before we go on holiday.
When we come back, we'll start transferring Mr Goldie's remaining pension pots to the SIPP, so I will need to start my research on funds soon
The broadband and TV transfer to Virgin happened yesterday, and it all went well.
Two workmen arrived about 8.30, and it was all done within an hour.
We were without the internet for about 2 minutes!
It's all so much quicker now, makes it much easier to use.
We are finding our round the TiVo box, as these things take a little time to get used to.
The only slight hitch was that caller display wasn't enabled on the phone line, which we had requested. But a phone call put this right, and it was done immediately.
So 9.5 out of 10, and highly recommended.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hi there,
Reading your diary from the beginning. So, 2 years ago you purchased a steam cleaner. Was it a stick cleaner. You said it was a success. What was it?
I would like to work P/T when I am debt free in 2017 and I like the way you juggle things.
I've subscribed

Hello doingitanyway, good to see you!
Wow, was it two years since I got the steam cleaner? That has gone very quickly
This was the one I got

I can't remember how much I paid for it, but I think it's cheaper now
I must admit it's been in the loft for a year.... but we did use a very old Vax to shampoo the carpets within the last few months, so we haven't needed it recently. But next time the carpets need freshening, we'll use it again

Thanks Goldiegirl, I'll look up the steam cleaner.
I used to work p/t too, but gave it up as I have debts to bust but once they are busted and the house improved enough I'm going to change to 4 days a week

So glad to hear the internet swap went smoothly. I've only recently had a T!vo box (free upgrade) and it took me a while to get the hang of some of the things. The built in help video tutorial thing is very good for hints & tips0

Had a bit of a thing with the Tivo box, it kept recording random things.
It turned out that it was a special feature, and it recorded things that it thought we'd like, based on our viewing habits. We turned the feature off, as it was a bit annoying
Had a good day out on Saturday. We went to the Olympic Stadium to see the Anniverary Games athletics. It's the first time I'd done anything like this. We had good seats on the back straight, but still needed to watch the finish of the races on the big screen. Mo Farah was the star of the day. The stadium was going crazy, and the noise was incredible.
I enjoyed it, although it was very, very hot.
I think I'd like to go again, as it is very easy to get to on the trainEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Glad you enjoyed it
we went on the first anniversary of the Olympics - couldn't get anything for the Olympics themselves. It's monumental, isn't it
