Hi Goldie - glad your switch went smoothly
I have just switched our phone and broadband to Plu$net so fingers crossed it goes well too. We're keeping sky tv until we've watched all our saved programmes.
Our hot weather seems to have gone for good although there is some sun in the forecast for next week. This week has mostly involved drizzle

Glad you enjoyed it
we went on the first anniversary of the Olympics - couldn't get anything for the Olympics themselves. It's monumental, isn't it
Yes, monumental is a good word. When sport is done well, it brings us together. We've been with VM for years and service is generally good

Very mixed here at the moment, but still pleasantly warm.
I expect us to open our SIPPs in the next few days, ready for when the TSB monthly savers finish. Then we'll each put in £2880, and it will get made up to £3600 for the tax relief element. We're going to use Hargreaves Lansdown. The management fees are more than Charles Stanley (I've got my S&S Isa with CS), but drawdowns are free with HL, whereas you pay for CS drawdowns. Plus, I love the HL web site, it is so easy to use! We'll put the funds in the Vanguard Life Strategy. VLS 60 for me, but possibly VLS 40 for Mr Goldie.
I've been reading up on funds in general for when we transfer the rest of Mr Goldie's pension pots to the SIPP. I'm formulating a plan, but it's slow. I do a bit each day, as otherwise it boggles the mind!
Been getting some good walking done, and generally enjoying ourselves.
It's about two and a half weeks until we go on our British Isles cruise, so looking forward to that.Early retired - 18th December 2014

, may just wimp out and put all in VLS 40

Argh, I should *really* understand the ramifications of this paragraph ...
That's come along really soon! Oh, I see the timing - it's starting over the bank holiday, a couple of days before my you-know-what :rotfl:Save
Yes, I think that did descend into jargon! :rotfl:
Translation - we're opening a SIPP each!
I think my holiday starts a few days before your big day, so I'll miss the excitement, but I will be sure to find out how you are getting on, when I return. But it is very soon now. :jThank goodness for that, on your behalf I couldn't have coped with any more problems :rotfl:
Similar here - looking at drawdown with HL and probably going to amalgamate another with it. I've got a fair chunk of VLS 40 and also Vanguard Short Term Investment Grade Bond - I'm probably going to take 25% out and leave the rest for now. Haven't a clue how to rebalance after I withdraw the 25% though, may just wimp out and put all in VLS 40
.
We've opened our HL SIPPs this afternoon.
It was much easier than when I opened my Charles Stanley ISA
We've funded the SIPPs with £100 each, and the rest of the money will become available during the week.
My account opened in full immediately, but Mr Goldie's hasn't. Looks like he needs some manual intervention. I remember a similar thing happened when we opened Nationwide current accounts. Not expecting any further news about this until Monday.
When we transfer the rest of Mr Goldie's pensions over, I was tempted to just use VLS. They are low cost, and the nature of the funds means they are diversified. But even so. using one provider is like putting all the eggs in one basket, so I'm working on drawing up a portfolio, based on HL's suggestions for conservative growth and balanced growth. The end result will be somewhere between the two (I hope)
I'll have to think about rebalancing later. This portfolio is taking up a lot of my brain power!
We are unlikely to want to drawdown in the short to medium term, so we hope to grow the capital a bit more
Was looking at interest rates for new accounts at some of the banks. They are appalling. I'm not going to go the whole hog and put everything in equities, but it seems to be only real hope for growth at the momentEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Have you looked at P2P at all?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
