Hello Goldie,
Just wanted to say think you for the H L tip, I will have a look. We have taken 25% of oh pension and of course savings rates have immediately plummeted so we really do need to look at alternatives to savings accounts. We have maxed out pretty much all of the current accounts and monthly savers that offer reasonable rates, and like you, we are left with the residue in a tesco internet saver at 1.22 which is really derisory.
Cruise sounds great!Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Have you looked at P2P at all?
I've looked, but only in a very general way. I reckon I'll end up dipping my toe in the waters. I've made a note of the ones you use, and Rate Setter is another one I've heard of. Will do a bit of research on thatSecret_Saving_Squirrel wrote: »Hello Goldie,

Cruise sounds great!
Mr Goldie had an email at 8am this morning to confirm his SIPP account is open. Quite impressive, as they must have only just started work.
Will now wait until either tomorrow or Wednesday, when we get the funds from the TSB monthly saver, then do our 'trade'
In the early part of next year we have some term savings accounts that will mature, so we'll have to try and find a decent home for the money. It's difficult in this climate to get a decent return on a lump sum. I have one of those Tesco 1.22% savers, which seems to be the best around for instant access. I've got so many 'pot's in that account - I keep track in a low tech way, in a notebook!
You Gov is dire. I've stalled on 4750 points and seem to get one survey a fortnight, if I'm luckyEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I'm stalled on YouGov too, though I opened my email to check as I read your comment, and there's something waiting for me2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hi Goldie
I am glad that everything is ticking along for you.
I read with interest your SIPP opening. We are not planning anything yet, but when we decide what we are doing with the rental in 5 years time, it may be an option to start one then (especially if we sell and pay off the mortgage). Need to keep looking to the future and keep adding bits to the plan whilst evaluating the best options.
Your cruise sounds lovely. I read an article in V0gue while I was away that described cruises on the last know wooden sailing ship in the UK - they did wildlife tours all round the coast - sounded great if you want to get back to nature.

The wooden sailing ship sounds lovely, MCI
The TSB monthly savers ended, so we transferred the money to our SIPPS. It has been very easy to do, and the website is simple to understand. After we're back from our holidays we'll do the next stage, to transfer Mr Goldie's other pension pots into the SIPP
The news that Santander are reducing the interest rate to 1.5% on the 123 Account is less than welcome.
I also had a letter from Kent Reliance yesterday, to advise the interest rate on the monthly saver reduces from 4% to 3.25% on 1 Sep.
I'm sure this is in the tip of the iceburg. I reckon the other high interest current account rates will be slashed, and there'll be reductions on monthly savers too.
Will have to monitor and decide what to do in due course
On a positive note, I've had two You Gov surveys. Up to 4850 now. At this rate, I'll be doing them on holiday, so I don't miss any on the race to 5000!Early retired - 18th December 2014

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi Alex
Unfortunately I don't - I left the magazine in Greece - but I will have a look for you and if I find it I'll post on your thread.

Well, off on my cruise tomorrow and for newgirly, yes it's our favourite cruiseline! The ship is Oriana, the oldest one in the fleet. I've only been on it once before, and it's not my favourite ship, but it'll be great to get away. Good thing we're not sailing today as it's very windy.
Now up to 4925 on YouGov. If I get any emails while I'm away, I'll be sure to do the surveys
