Hello,
I know what you mean about detachment from work, I feel the same. It used to be what defined me, but now I can see the end, I feel very differently. Like you, I have a bad ear this week too, so hope we both get some clarity soon! I feel as if I am not really part of the conversations, which isn't great when you are the teacher....
Have a good week,

Sorry you've had ear problems as well - it's not much fun. It seems more noticeable at work when I can't hear so well - before I just used to listen to what was happening around me, and picked up information I needed to do my job. But now I think I miss out on a lot, as I haven't been hearing so well
I feel a bit happier at the moment, I haven't had a really noisy ear since last Tuesday. It's just low level hissing, which I have got used to, and is becoming normal. I was intending to go back to the doctors this week, but as there has been improvement, I'm not going back just yet, I'll just see how it goes, for the time being at least.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Know what you mean - I was told to do steam inhalation, but he didn't bother to tell me what he thought was wrong with my ear. And I was so surprised it wasn't wax, I forgot to ask!:rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

Just wanted to mention this - it was 10 years ago today that my dad died.
I still think of him most days, and miss all the laughs and the stories he used to tell about his schooldays and when he was in the war.

Last night I said that the low hissing noise in my ear had become almost normal. About an hour after that post, I was just doing a bit of jigsaw before I went to bed..... and the hissing stopped. It was so sudden, that I actually felt quite startled! I could hear a very quiet ringing in my ear, but I had to concentrate to hear it.
I went to bed, and didn't hear anything over night, and my ear was quiet this morning, then about lunch time it started up again & I had about 2 hours of blaring!
It's now quietened to a reasonable level.
I'm going to phone for an appointment at the doctors tomorrow morning, and I'm not going to be brushed off without some positive action being taken!
Mouche, about auction sites. Ebay is pretty annoying these days, but I'm not sure there's any real alternatives! I've heard of eBid, but I have also heard things are slow to sell on that site. It seems Facebook is good for selling locally, but I don't really know how that works, as I'm not a Facebooker !
I've got a sausage casserole in the oven for dinner. I've kept two sausages back for a pizza topping at the weekend, and replaced them with some bacon bits I had hanging around. It's quite good fun to randomly change ingredients around, I never did that before!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thank you
If I end up having to live with it, then I'll adjust to it..... but at this point I just want to understand why this has happened, and find out if anything can be done about it
We had our gas and electric bills in today.
Compared to the same quarter last year, we used 36 more units of electricity. I have tried hard not to use the tumble dryer, but I think this has been offset by breadmaking and more cooking. But as it's not a big increase, I'm happy with this.
The gas result is quite astonishing - 318 less units used compared to the same quarter last year. A lot of it has to do with the better weather this year, but we have been more careful about when we put the heating on as well. Last May's gas bill was ridiculously high - it was when I had my mental LBM, and thought I would have to make changes to make an early retirement feasible.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I got a doctor's appointment this morning, and have been referred to an ENT consultant.
I've got a Healthcare costs insurance through my employer, which allows for a private diagnostic consultation, so I've been able to get an appointment for 24th May, so I don't have to wait for ages.
I'm pleased that some progress has been made. Ironically, my ear has been quiet so far today.
On the way home, I called into my second home, the garden centre. The birds are eating us out of house and home, so I needed some more nuts for them. Also, I had a voucher from their loyalty club, and put it towards a jigsaw. This jigsaw is very popular on eBay and always has a high re-sale price, so I may end up making money out of itEarly retired - 18th December 2014

What a nice day
This morning we went out, and I made a planned purchase of a lightweight waterproof jacket from M&S. I had some vouchers from their Premium Club which can be used from today until Saturday, for £5 off and 20% off, so saved £18. The rest of the cost will be covered by money from eBay sales, so I haven't had to spend any 'real' money at all. Also, I had another £10 voucher, which I couldn't use with the other vouchers, so bought some socks with that voucher, to put by for when they are needed.
Then we came home, and did some work in the garden, nice and sunny out today.
The annual boiler service has been done, so another thing ticked off the list of annual things to do.
We have chilli con carne for dinner, from my batch cook last week, so not much cooking to do today, so I'm going to read my book in the garden for a whileEarly retired - 18th December 2014
