Goldie ... finally managed to pay you a return visit and have a good old nosy of your thread!

Lots of interesting things going on ... am keen to hear all about cruises as taking a cruise is on my bucket list (even though I am the travel sickness queen)!

Your thoughts and plans for retirement (and your approach to same) are very inspiring ... I'm so stringently caught up on the mortgage free mantra that I've not given a lot of thought to what might come after ... especially as we're racing to pay off the mortgage before OH is obliged to retire (unless I can earn a fortune freelancing in between). We both have a pension problem as a result of our previous marriages, so unless we do something, things could get tricky.

So, I'll be happily following your adventures and employing some of your approaches - reducing what you're living on in preparation for retirement sounds like an excellent plan which I might borrow and implement the second the mortgage is paid up!

Am concerned about your ears ... I had a severe bout of labyrinthitis about 4 years ago and have tinnitus and recurring episodes ever since ... that first dizzy, sickness spell sounds like it might well have been an episode of labyrinthitis? So glad you're now able to see someone quite quickly and let's hope they can get to the bottom of it and deal with it for you.

    Have a good weekend :)

Hi, everyone, thanks for looking in!

I've been at work the last couple of days, so I never have very much to post on working days, because it's always the same - very busy, not a moment to spare, certain people don't pull their weight - I'd be posting the same every week! :rotfl:

It was even worse today, as I made three silly errors - I could have kicked myself!

Anyway, it's out of the way until next Thursday morning, so I'm going to shut the door on all work thoughts

Hab, sorry to hear you have some ear problems as well - it's not much fun, is it:(

I haven't had any bad tinnitus since Monday, the noise is generally at low hiss level, which I can cope with.

The problem with having the internet is that there's so much information available - I've already self diagnosed myself with at least three conditions, including labyrinthitis! I've had to step away from Google for the time being, before I find something else that I think I've got!

It's my right ear that has the problems. When I answer the phone, I normally put the receiver to my left ear. But today I answered the phone and put the receiver to my right ear, and could hardly hear what they were saying, so I seem to be quite deaf in that ear.

Looking back, for the last several months, I think I've had problems hearing some of the people at work. I was putting it down to them speaking quietly, but maybe I've been getting deaf for a while?

I'm really pleased that I'll be able to see a consultant next weekend, as it'd be nice to know exactly what is going on.

We are due fly out to our river cruise six weeks tomorrow, so I'm praying it's not something that will cause problems on a flight.

Anyway, all I can do is take one step at a time, so all being well, this should be a warm sunny weekend to enjoy.

Really nice warm day here, although not quite as sunny as I'd hoped, although there is still plenty of time for sun.

We've been out to M&S to get our monthly 'treat' shopping - £41.00:eek: But that will keep us in treats for for the next 4 weeks or more.

Getting loads of washing done to take advantage of this warm weather, which will mean lots of ironing.

It'll be an weekend of low eBay activity. I've got 4 jigsaw auctions that'll end tomorrow, and over the weekend I'll list a job lot of LP's, 2 lots of DVD's and 2 lots of postcards. All are prepared and ready to list, so it'll just be a few mouse clicks to get them live.

I'll also prepare more batches of postcards to list on other weekends. I thought it'd just be a matter of splitting them into random piles, but on reflection I've sorted the nicest ones out, so every batch will have some decent cards. Otherwise, someone could just end up with mountains and the inside of churches, which they might not be happy with! Gotta keep the buyers happy!:rotfl:

I'd better go now, I've got to sort out the pizza for lunch. I'm a bit addicted to HM pizza at the moment.

Just wanted to mention this - it was 10 years ago today that my dad died.

I still think of him most days, and miss all the laughs and the stories he used to tell about his schooldays and when he was in the war.

RIP Dad, you were the best xx

    Hi Goldie

I'm approaching the first anniversary with a bit of anxiety but not as much as at Christmas, which was his birthday. It's nice to see that you have fond memories ten years on. Some days I think about him a lot and others not so much, but he is very much on my mind at the moment.

I'm sorry you're still having a hard time with your ear. I agree that you will feel better just to have a diagnosis, even if it doesn't improve you will be able to stop guessing and start finding ways to cope.

Such anniversaries can be mixed times, you want to hold onto the good memories, but they become caught up in the painful ones too. There are times of year, scents and even flowers in bloom which can make you think of that person, whether it's an anniversary or not, which can catch you unawares.

Kind thoughts to you both, GG and Janey. x

  • Hello,

I really hope that you get a proper diagnosis for your ear, it can be really discombobulating not being able to hear properly and to have the noises. Really hope it gets better soon,

It's very true that the 'feel' of the time of time of the year brings back memories. May 2004 had warm sunny weather, just like it is now.

My mum died in June 2008, so this spring / early summer period always feels a bit strange now. But it's such a nice hopeful time of year, everything bursting into new life, I think it did help me get though the bad times a few years ago. The light evenings, the birdsong through the open windows, has always helped me remember them with a smile.

Best wishes to you janey, my suggestion is to do something nice on the day, that you enjoy, and remember the good times with your dad

Thank you all for asking about my ear. At the moment, the noise in my ear is still at low hiss level, and if I wake up in the night, I can hear a low ring/whine. This has been going on for about 2 months now. It does seem to be better than it was, but I tend to think that it's going to be part of my life now. At least I can find out where I stand when I see the consultant

Had a nice day today. We went to a vintage fair at the Kent Showground.

I love those sort of things. It amuses me to see the things that I grew up with that have now become collectable.

The trouble is, it's easy to buy things that aren't needed. I was quite restrained - I got a couple of small cottage ornaments. My mum used to give them to me as Christmas presents, so I thought it'd be nice to add to my collection.

Also I got a set of 6 little coffee spoons with a coloured 'bean' on the end of each handle. I have no need of this item at all. The general idea is to enjoy it for a while and then eBay it after a few years. ( I think I've watched too much Bargain Hunt !)

May is a month of anniversaries - 25 years ago today that I moved into this house.

It was a lovely sunny day, just like today. I can't believe I've lived here so long, as it's really gone quickly.

I've only lived in three houses during my entire life. My parents house until I was 21, our first house we bought together for 8 years, and now this one for 25 years. We have no plans to move in the medium term. Maybe we'd downsize at some point in the future, but this is not a definite plan. We've both decided that we'll know when the time is right, so it's not something that we think about at the moment.

I sold the 4 jigsaws that I had on eBay, so I'll get them posted, and them get on with the Monday housework blitz. This afternoon, I'll photograph the lots of postcards that I intend to get eBayed. I probably have about 1500 cards ...... I had no idea it was so many.

    Have a good day everyone
