Nothing that I've put onto ebay has sold :rotfl: this is its 2nd go, after its third, its going **out** :rotfl:
I'm glad your day has felt so great, Goldie2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Quite a busy day today.
This morning, we took Mr Goldie's car to We Buy Any Car. After inspection, the offer price went down by a couple of hundred pounds. This was due to chipped paintwork and a wing mirror that was broken. But the price was still acceptable to us - after the selling fee we will get about £3210.
All the paperwork was done, and the money will be in our bank account in 4 working days. If we had paid £24.75, we could have had the money tomorrow, but we don't need the money urgently.
It was all done in about 30 minutes, and, assuming the money comes through ok, I'd recommend them.
It was quite sad leaving the car, as it was a nice one and it has served us well. We have been a two car household since 1986, and Mr Goldie has been a car owner since 1969, so it's quite a mindset change.
But it was necessary, as we can't justify having two cars anymore.
After that we stopped off for coffee and a cake, then we went to the cinema to see The Hobbit.
When we came home, Mr Goldie phoned the car insurance people and the RAC, to do the cancellations. He was a bit vague about the amounts, but I think we'll get about £100 in refunds.
A letter from the Inland Revenue was on the mat when we got home, confirming that Mr Goldie's tax allowance has been allocated to his pension provider. I'm not 100% certain they've done it correctly - he has two separate payments, so I was hoping for the tax code to be split, rather than just one amount. But we're just going to wait and see what happens when the money come through this month, before we do anything else. At least we're making some progress.:)
We had chicken and butter bean stew for dinner. I used to do it with chorizo, but I can't have chorizo anymore, so I just put some chopped red pepper in instead.
Three more things de-cluttered today. Two out of date food items and one car:rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

I hope your ears survived the film. We went last week & my ears were ringing afterwards as it was so loud. Absolutely fantastic film though, hope you enjoyed it.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Now that's decluttering! :T0 -
Shame about the chorizo - you can always add smoked paprika to help with the flavour substitute (unless your recipe already has it in lol)
Nice decluttering.

Hi Goldie, I've been trying to get on your thread for ages to say good luck with retirement when it happens, I pop on today & find you're already a lady of leisure (between decluttering & being a wow in the kitchen that is
) Many congrats, I'm pleased to hear all is going well so far. Somehow I don't think you're going to be one of those people who starts off retirement busy then slows down to a stop after a few weeks
I thought of you last week as I resisted a TSV - it was nail products & I don't have time for all that malarkey anymore
Hope you continue to enjoy your freeeeeedom :TLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
A mayo recipe that has worked every time for me so far:
whisk 1 egg yolk with a good pinch of mustard , a pinch of salt (reckon you can miss that out) and 1 tblsp lemon juice.
drip in 1 cup light olive oil (evoo makes it taste funny!) as you whisk.
have a taste! Add more lemon juice/vinegar if required.
leave for an hour then pop it in the fridge. It's good for up to a week.
It never lasts a week here!!:DNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

I'm definitely going to have another go at the mayonnaise - your recipe is very similar to one that I saw James Martin do the other day.
I think I added the oil too quickly last time. Hopefully I'll do better next time, as I don't like to be beaten:rotfl:RoaringTwenties wrote: »Hi Goldie, I've been trying to get on your thread for ages to say good luck with retirement when it happens, I pop on today & find you're already a lady of leisure (between decluttering & being a wow in the kitchen that is) Many congrats, I'm pleased to hear all is going well so far. Hi RT, I unsubscribed from QVC emails so I wasn't tempted anymore!
Yes, it all seems to be going well so far, at the moment we still think we're on an extended holiday, I don't think we've really got used to the idea that we won't have to go back to work in a few weeks:rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

We went out for a walk this morning as it was sunny, at this time of year we need to take the opportunities when they arise.
Then we booked a couple of outings and restaurants for our cruise in March. Don't ask the cost, suffice it to say it'll be coming out of savings, not our day to day budget!
I made some shortbread, which tastes nice from the sample that I ate.
Then I decluttered a cupboard. Various paperwork, birthday cards and random objects have found their way into recycling or the bin. The grand total has gone up to 55. It will increase eventually, as I've found a couple of items to eBay, and a couple of other things will go in the next charity bag.
Phew it's all go this retirement lark!
Tomorrow we are out for the day on a coach trip. We are going to the ice show in Brighton.
Hope everyone has a nice Friday eveningEarly retired - 18th December 2014
