Today I've joined a couple of cinema loyalty clubs, as I think we'll be going a bit more often. There's a must see film (for me at least) coming out in a few weeks, so I want to be ready for when we see it. It stars my two favourite actors, Johnny Depp and Ewan MacGregor. I saw it advertised on the side of a bus in Brighton, and got so excited about it people started looking at me!

    I quite agree Goldie ;)

We quite often treat ourselves to a hot drink while out, but avoid mealtimes so it's a sort of compromise. We usually share a cake, but still feel that we've had a little treat :)

I never buy programmes - they just add to the general clutter! But I've found that people are actually really kind and someone sitting near me will always lend me theirs if I desperately want to look something up - or will look it up for me :) A smile and a nice ask seems to do the trick every time.

I have bought programmes in the past, especially for the West End, as I like to read about the actors in the show I'm seeing.

But when I get home they just go into the cupboard. I admit to a box of programmes in the loft, which have slipped through the decluttering net. I remember throwing away a load of 1980's programmes several years ago. The ones I currently have date back to the 1990's. The last time I looked at them, I decided to keep, so I could sell them on eBay in a few years when they finally become 'vintage'. In reality, I'm probably hoarding them!

For some reason, I like to keep the tickets for a show for a while. Then each year when I start decluttering, I declutter last year's tickets. I haven't thrown away yesterday's tickets yet, because part of me wants to keep the ticket to remember the day out. I WILL throw the ticket away...maybe tomorrow!

Glad you enjoyed the ice show and pootling about Brighton, Goldie. The food/drink compromise you describe is what I do - I want hot drinks, I want to be able to sit in a cafe, but I also want my own food, so I take food and buy drinks.

Well done on not buying the programme, *such* a lot of money!

I'm glad it's not just me who likes having coffees in cafes. It's so much fun watching the world go by

Definitely - we must be one of the few European countries who don't have a specific word for it :)

Tickets - I keep tickets for a long time too - longer than a year, actually :o my scanner is such a friend to my decluttering efforts, when its something like that that really is just *clutter*, I can scan it and throw it with no problems :D

My two ice show tickets are still sitting next to the laptop. I think having the ticket somehow helps you remember the day. But after a while it just becomes clutter which I want to get rid of. Scanning it is an idea...... but then I'd probably never look at it again.

I think I'm going to be brave and put them in recycling. I said I want this to be the last big year of decluttering, so I don't want tp be decluttering the tickets this time next year

On that note, an umbrella, 2 sun hats and 4 belts (the type that is attached to jeans when you buy them in M&S) have been decluttered today, and one item has been listed on eBay. I have five items ending on eBay this evening, two will sell so far.

I've managed to get enough points on Ipsos I Say to request another £10 JL voucher. I will stop Ipsos now - I've decided to run down my surveying, as it's just too frustrating and boring. I'm trying to earn another 5 points on Opinion Outpost, so I can cash out at £2.50. OO used to be great for me, I'd get £10 every 3 - 4 weeks. But now I can't qualify for any of their surveys. I've been trying for these 5 points for two weeks! As soon as I can, I'll stop OO too.

Mr Goldie had a noon appointment at the dentist to have a tooth out. It couldn't be done at his normal dentist, so he had to go to an NHS 'minor oral surgery' dentist. I dropped him off, and went home- at 12.05 he was on the phone asking to be picked up - the tooth had come straight out, and he was all done! Not bad at all.

He's just said that it is aching a bit, so he'll have an asprin.

Due to the dentistry we have soup for dinner this evening

Ice show tickets went to recycling - that's a task I won't have to do next year:T

We did the weekly shop at Sains this morning - I have a feeling we've settled for the convenience of Sains, rather than travelling to the next town for possible savings at other supermarkets (would use more petrol as well) We spent just over £50, which wasn't too bad for the week.

I got my payout from Viewsbank at £6.39, and I managed to do another Opinion Outpost survey for 5 points, so I've cashed out at £2.50, which was paid to my paypal account. I've now unsubscribed from both. That leaves me now just with You Gov and One Poll, and I'm some way off payout, so I'll just have to plod along with those two for the time being.

Decluttering continues - 3 jigsaws sold on eBay last night, and some sundry items from a cupboard that are being thrown out or recycled brings me up to 64.

I've got 4 jigsaws that'll sell on eBay this evening, and I've listed a couple of items this afternoon.

Just trying to keep up the momentum - if I can do something everyday it'll gradually get done. :)

So with you on the surveys. I gave them up too.
Idea: How about a scrap book? That way you could have a page for every year of retirement and the tickets and *bits* wouldn't be clutter but a memory board? I keep Handsome Baby's last year rosettes on wire grid hanging in my office so they became a nice memory rather than clutter. Hopefully he will add to them if he manages to get over his 'bad back' and return to being ridden.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Yes, scrapbooks are great, they keep it all together and are nice to look through. X
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

I must admit I'm a bit hesitant about starting scrapbooks, as I've already got stacks of photo albums, which take up quite a bit of room already!

BUT, the idea has got me thinking, along with KC's comment about scanning things.

The main reason we printed photos was to show people who were interested. But since I got my iPad, we haven't printed any photos at all - we just transfer the nicest photos to the iPad, and take the iPad with us to show the photos.

Also, I was thinking that I need to take my camera with me each time we go out for the day. I didn't take it on Saturday and regretted it, as the sea conditions were quite dramatic. (my phone is rubbish for pictures)

So I'll be taking my camera with me at all times, and will be taking photos of any tickets as part of my record of the day, which will then live on my computer :) Then the ticket can be disposed of immediately so now more clutter will build up

I must admit, it's important to me to 'keep' memories, as my mum had Alzheimers, so she lost all her memories of her life, which was so sad.

Thank you for all your ideas and thoughts, ladies, it is so useful to bounce ideas around.

Feeling pleased with myself, had another go at making mayonnaise, and it worked this time. In fact, it's delicious:T
