I have never made soup is there a foolproof method? Any hints or tips?Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

I'm by no means a soup expert - I've been making my own for only about a year.
Normally I look on the Internet for recipes, and pick one that looks easy and try it out. If it works out ok, I keep that recipe, if not I try another.
The chicken soup that I do is quite easy. I just get the chicken carcass, put in in a pan with a litre of chicken stock and a few roughly chopped vegetables, bring to the boil and simmer for an hour.
Then I fish out all the bones, put back any chicken still attached, and then put in the food processor for a few seconds to make the vegetables smaller.
Then I season with pepper and a herb.
It's all trial and error, really!
But I would like to say that the foolproof mayonnaise recipe was a disaster! I just ended up with an oily gloop :rotfl:which has now been thrown out.
Won't be doing that again!
When we visited our friends before Christmas I was assured it was easy....but she is one of those domestic goddesses :rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

Sorry to hear about the mayonnaise. We have lots of soup and don't always use recipes, we just stick surplus veg etc in the blender! Favourites are tomato and bacon, or carrot and coriander.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Adore home made soup. Current favs are butternut squash and philly cheese (not cheap I admit) and carrot lentil and cashew (again not cheap).Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

getting rid of a car is serious decluttering!

Yes, I think Goldie wins :rotfl:.
But possibly only on a temporary basis, gg? - you must be doing some serious decluttering yourself - I think you'll probably overtake GG in the next month or soI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

How have the first few days been Goldie?
They have gone by so quickly! Today is a day I have been looking forward to - the first 'normal' Wednesday of the year. Normally, I'd be thinking, 'oh no, work tomorrow', but I feel as if the weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
In order to celebrate, I've de-cluttered a small knitted pouch that I used to carry my work pass cards in!
I had two eBay sales last night which I've posted today, and also de-cluttered some worn out socks and underwear, so that brings me up to 44 on the decluttering scoreboard.
So far, I've been decluttering the really easy, obvious stuff. I think the rate of progress will start to slow up when I start on my warerobes, as I'll be trying things on, then having piles of stuff waiting to ebay. I'll still try and do at least one thing a day, though.
Today I've got a chilli con carne in the slow cooker, one of my favourite meals
Love the soup ideas - sadly anything with bacon or cheese is off my menu now, as it's too high in salt, but the carrot ones sound very do-able.
We've also managed to get out for a walk today, a short walk, but we've made a start:AEarly retired - 18th December 2014
