Had a bit of an annoyance with remote fobs today. Replaced batteries, wouldn't unlock. Thought the worst - that I had messed up the programming and they wouldn't work ever again.

However after much shouting at the car I have discovered the cause. It locks fine. However on the PCB 2 connections on the lock button have broken, and it seems to need these to make any circuit work. Pushing down on the lock button pushes the contacts together hence that button works fine. In order to make the others work one has to therefore lightly push the lock button simultaneously.

So tomorrow I'll get myself a soldering iron and fix the connection. I'll also fix the battery clip that has broken off the other fob. Could I completely destroy the entire thing doing this or will it be ok? I am pretty good at soldering, I've modded Xboxes before with miniscule contact points so would think I'd be ok...

Not sure I understand that last post, but I'm glad you used the same solution to aircon that I did. It wasn't a luxobarge, and although I was living in a pretty hot climate I think the AC failed because I didn't use it enough.. Fuel was very expensive...

I'm sure I had none of these problems on my first car, but then Marinas were pretty simple to get your mate to repair... :-)

You seem to have got the problem with the key fobs, I was mucking about with a Passat one recently and I thought I'd broke it.

Using the key to lock and unlock the car manually once seemed to get it working again.

Oh and the cruise control, as well as the normal steering wheel controls, has a kinda master button on the dashboard you have to press first in order to use cruise at all. Bizarre.

Same on a Subaru Outback H6, think it was a American 'safety' feature.
