I constantly read articles trying to persuade me to change my electricity provider. I have completed the form for quotes and I am told that I could save £400 per year if I change to OVO. However, having read the reviews it doesn't look such a good idea to change? Does anyone have a good experience?

I've had lots of good experiences when switching energy suppliers (EDF, SSE, Npower, Eon and OVO so far) - there will always be smooth switches as well as difficult switches with all companies, unfortunately you just never know in advance how smooth (or difficult) they will go. I certainly wouldn't be put off from switching, especially to save as much as £400, but each to their own I suppose, really depends what you can afford.
  • UPDATE and a WARNING to others

    My apologies for doubting Ovo.

I finally rang Ovo today to find out what the delay was.

Ovo confirmed that they had in fact NEVER RECEIVED the application from the Cheap Energy Club and according to them I’m not the first Cheap Energy Club member they’ve had this problem with.

My advice is that if you used the Cheap Energy Club for the switch and have not had a reply direct from Ovo ring them immediately and check that they have actually received your application.

I've now cancelled my Cheap Energy Club membership and will be using more reliable and trustworthy comparison/switching sites from now on.

Further UPDATE and WARNING to others who may be in a similar situation

I emailed Cheap Energy Club on 11th April and 5 days later on 16th April I eventually received a reply saying they would look into it with MoneySupermarket and Ovo Energy.

That was 4 weeks ago and I've still not had the courtesy of a reply/explanation of what went wrong from the Cheap Energy Club
    .

Then yesterday out of the blue a Welcome to Ovo email finally arrived!

Rang Ovo this morning to cancel the switch to them as I have already taken my business to another supplier via another comparison site due to the total lack of response from the Cheap Energy Club.

Ovo confirmed that they only received the switch application from the Cheap Energy Club/MoneySupermarket on 1st May. That's 5 weeks after the initial application was made.

I would advise others to use other more reliable comparison sites such as energyhelpline or uswitch as imo the Cheap Energy Club is currently not fit for purpose.

Are you using the old site or the new beta site?

    Old address: https://my.ovoenergy.com

    New address: https://beta.ovoenergy.com

I used the new beta site this morning to enter my opening readings. There were 2 boxes on the home page, that I entered my readings straight into. No clicking or asking required.

Well it's now over 7 weeks since my OVO account became live yet still no final bill from EDF despite the 4-6 weeks validation time quoted by OVO now long passed.

An extract from an online chat I had with EDF this evening confirms OVO are to blame for the delay.........

EDF agent: I can see that your electricity account is transferred over from us on 02.04.2014 but the gas account is still with us and the transfer date is not confirmed yet. Your new supplier applied to take over the gas account very late hence the supply is still with us for gas. It is in the initial stage of changing the supplier.

I will be back on the phone to OVO tomorrow to hear their excuses :(

I am rather worried about my application. I applied last Wednesday 7th May and have to date not received any e-mail confirming my switch/application! One wonders if it has registered or not.
    Very disappointing.

Did you apply directly with Ovo or through a comparison site?

I applied through Simply Switch! Maybe not so simple after all!

I called Ovo who know nothing about my application. Not ever had a problem in the past when switching.

Did you get a confirmation email from Simply Switch? Sorry, I've not used them before, but someone might be able to reply with whether they usually send one and what the time frame was that they heard from Ovo.

I would either contact Simply Switch now or wait another week or so to see if you get a welcome letter through the post from Ovo, and then if not contact Simply Switch to establish whether they've put through the request with Ovo.
