Aww I like the name raindrops Stewby, it's kinda cute! Also well done on the savings! We've managed to save a lot in the last 6 months since I took control and it feels so good doesn't it?

NSK, as it's now your birthday I can say "happy birthday" sounds like you are having a lovely time with Mummy NSK and yay for the new MacBook!

I'm feeling done in. Working till 2am last night then getting up at 630am and then working again tonight has taken it's toll. Also one of the clips on my work shoes has broken so I have had to wear walking shoes which aren't as nearly as comfortable and supportive for my bad knee so my feet are throbbing! Lots of folk at work have started doing all night shifts, I am one of a few who have opted out because for a start I wouldn't be able to get the chance to sleep much in the day to catch up and I don't want it to have a detrimental affect on my children. I'll stick with what I'm doing cos it works for now.

I'm rambling now, I should go to bed...

  • Hi all,

Happy birthday Kat, hope you have a great day. I'm still on 1/15 NSDs, and today will be another spend as I have to go and get my tyres/ oil/ lights checked in preparation for my MOT. So could be potentially expensive, but fingers crossed! Hoping to have a NSD tomorrow, and probably tuesday as well. On the bright side, my overdraft interest went out and it's reduced again for this month to £11.30, so bringing my debt down is starting to pay off.

Can't wait till it's gone for good!

    Happy Birthday NSK :bdaycake:

Hope you have a good one.

Today will be a spend day today but so far I have 3/15 SFD and 4/13 LTW. So far so good. Not sure how much I have spent but will add up all the receipts after today's little bits and pieces.

    Will update later.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Got my car back, with no charge!

Double checked the light wasn't moving before I took it back. Had a little C1 for two days, nice car, but a little bit too small for me.

Up to 2 SFD's now and 3 LTW's. Hoping to get another one today but, if they are open, I need to go to the solicitors and I'm pretty sure even for a ten minute visit I need to pay for parking. Am debating not counting it though, because it is house related and that comes from other sauces.

Other than that no real plans for the weekend. Just relaxing and catching up on a few odds and ends.

Oh, and I want my badge!!!!!!!!!!

did you post on the debt free roll of honor shyspender? i got mine within 40 mins of posting :)

    happy birthday kat! :bdaycake:

so thought yest was a sfd but just remembered i spent 50p on grand national sweepstake :wall: on the positive side i did my body pump class last night and really enjoyed it (its my favourite class) and my wrist didnt hurt which was good. and the miracle is i can actually walk today :j am not going to the gym though, will just swim but will aim to go again tomorrow.

today will mainly be spent sitting in my loft. going to start sorting out and binning rubbish. i dont have that much up there but the previous person dumped loads of house stuff up there.

there is a massive bit of carpet i will prob list for sale on gumtree, some fireplace accesorizes, the victorian door which i will prob keep if it fits (although considering selling it and buying a reclaimed one with glass bits), the original handrail which i will keep as i would like to get it fitted (and then will sell the modern one) and best of all, the original floorboards from upstairs in my house.

i need to go measure, count and inspect but if they are in ok condition and all of them are there i reckon there is about 25sqm and on ebay they seem to sell for around £22sqm so thats over £500!:eek::eek::eek: fingers crossed they are ok. double fingers crossed they are not invested with insects which have now infested whole loft! will lift a few boards to inspect the joists i think just to double check! _pale_

also going to look into the british gas tariff that you get the free hive thermostat with as i would like to get a thermostat as dont have one and like the idea of remotely controlling it :)

Well now! I did this yesterday! There are 7 charity shops near me and we rummage through them all. One was "everything £1" and I tried on 5 pairs. Depressing to say the least. I have clearly put on a little weight and am now around a 14 instead of the usual 12 and thus find it hard to locate a pair - then with a leg length preferred of around 36" I am lost...

Went to TKMazz / River Island and there was NOTHING! So annoyed. Especially when I realise that I have to put on my jeans, then my shoes as my jeans are too tight to bend over in....:rotfl:

If I'd realised, then I could've sent you the pair I found! It's awkward when you're 'between sizes' as the brands differ wildly. But charity shop jean hunting is much much better than proper shop jean hunting where you have to go to a different rack for a different style. Have you ever tried bloke's jeans on? I have accasionally found some that fit a treat - there must be some short-legged blokes out there too! At 5'3", a 36" leg would be round my middle! Or my boobs. :rotfl:

    Happy Birthday Kat.

Well done Stewby with your savings.

Yesterday was a spendy day as predicted, the tyre for my car was £18 fitted, we got a part worn one as I only do about 2000 miles a year and it was half the price. DH had to renew his photo driving license which was £20 plus £5 for the photo (you don't need the photo bit if you have a valid passport but he doesn't), just another money making scheme for the government I suppose. Mine expires next month so that's another spend on the horizon.

I am feeling like many of you in that this debt will never go. We have most of the money for our holidays set aside already, we don't have expensive holidays and do mostly free outdoorsy things when away, we take our dog with us so no kennel fees and prepare most of our own food. I have set up an account for car expenses which I have only managed to put £41 into so the car expenses will have to be very cheap:rotfl:. I am going to open another one today for Christmas/Birthdays and pop some into that but it is all pushing my debt free date back.

I listed some items on Gumtree this week but haven't had any luck so today I am going to list on ebay and pay the listing fee I think, they are items which should go for £40+ each so it is worth getting them on there and freeing up the cash.

Have a good day all, hope the sun puts in an appearance for you all.

dolly- dont think of your saving pots as pushing your debt free date back :( realistically whether you have the pots or not, you will still buy presents and pay items for the car when needed so whilst i appreciate your debt repayments may be reduced in months where you have no spends on these, in the months when you buy these things without the saving pots your debt repayments would be harder hit if you know what i mean?

the good thing about savings pots is that you put the same in each month so makes it easier to know in advance exactly how much you can pay off.

also, if you have all your saving pots in one account (and keep track via notebook/spreadsheet) you can 'borrow' from the pots eg. if in month two you need £40 for car but you only have £20 in the car pot but £40 in the overall pot, you can use the £40 and it is topped back up next month. i do this with annual expenses as they are all due at different times in the year :)
