  • I think this is terrible - I have been paying £25 per month but now it's saying my monthly payment will go up to £39 - I only do this deal for the gym and can't really bothered with all the other stuff. I have enough to do! After offering this great deal to entice new customers they are suddenly changing their system. Not impressed at all and seriously thinking of cancelling membership.

I have just joined Pru and had the vitality points etc explained to me, so am looking for ways to maximise the number of points I can accrue before November.

Basic health screen, fitness assessment, personal health review? Can any of them be done straight away, or do you have to have been a member for 6 months?

    Straight away.
  • I took out the pru health insurance in August 2007 and have been a member at Cannons Health Club since then. I attend twice or more a week so have been paying nothing for my cannons membership.
You collect points and are aiming to improve your status to get more discount on your Pru Health premium renewal.
I am doing really well and am now silver status which will give 50% off my pru health premium when I renew in August.
    BUT, AND HERE IT COMES
I have just received an email from Pru to say the gym part of their policy is being changed and as of 1st November 2008 in addition to my Pru Health premium they want me to pay £30 per month for cannons.
So no more free membership of gyms
When you add up the cost of the health cover and the £30 they want for the gym it will cost me more than straight membership, so I will be cancelling my pru health policy
Have I been conned, well maybe a bit, but I will have had free cannons membership for over a year!!!

Why haven't you reached Platinum? Haven't you done the Fitness tests etc?

Just when I was looking to take this deal up they change it .

If I joined now does anyone know the max points I would be able to accumulate before this kicks in?

Mines up for renewal on 3rd August. I need 272 points to hit platinum, should in theory be easy because I've only done one fitness assessment, however this was on the 2nd Feb, so, what I'm saying is can I take the other one on 2nd August? would this qualify as 6 months? or would it have to be the 3rd? Renewal day so would that count?

    Sorry for being thick guys!
No idea - phone them and ask. I've always found them extremely helpful.

Would it be worth signing up through the Boots Health Insurance? Can't see much on there about their scheme changing even though its through Pru http://www.bootshealthinsurance.com/

Believe its the same thing mate. If you try a quote it re-directs you to Pru-Health where it state's the change on Nov 1st.
  • Boots health is only slightly better it should have on the top left Boots Introduces Pru health, but is in a Pru health website. We also had a Free health check and free eye test not sure if that will still be there.

I will easily get platinum this year with not getrting the full points but nextyear will need to keep a close eye on the points.

The points system is lower and I think Boots members had slightly more points available.

I was looking at the new points system from 1st Nov (2000 for platinum) and you can get 1990 points from going to the gym, fitbug, reading online, meal plan, non smoking and fitness assessment.

A further 620 points are there if you can show you have improved or maintained BMI, body fat or the fitness level.

Also you can get 700 more points only if you have one of the medical condition.
